"Captain?" Flint asked as he turned to him.
Synyc stood in thought for a moment, trying to figure out what to do. "Maybe we could go back to Wayland. Surely they can at least help. Corr? You're the doctor here."
He quietly stared at the wall and took a deep breathe. "If I can get my hands on the right equipment and drugs, then I can do it." He turned and looked at Synyc, concern and urgency written on his face.
"But we need to go. Now."
"You get the equipment, meet us on the ship," Synyc ordered as he waved his hand for them all to follow. "Evander and I will get Jolie." He saw a strange expression on Evander's face. "I'll need to officially dispatch her. And Flint, you get the ship prepared."
Everyone nodded and ran off in their own separate directions.
Jolie woke up from a nap to find herself cuffed sloppily to her hospital bed. I guess this is the best the Rebellion can do. Shame. I could easily escape this if I wanted to. She could feel the effect of the sedation drugs wearing off. She fought the urge to break out and administer more herself. I'm too dangerous to be kept conscious. I can't even control myself anymore.
She derailed from her train of thought when Evander and Synyc entered the small room. It was dark and secluded with all the sharp medical supplies taken out of it. Weapons. That's smart.
"We don't have much time, Jolie. We need to go do this now or never," Synyc said as he unlocked the cuffs.
"No," Jolie said lazily, her words being slurred from the drugs. "No... I can't hurt.."
"This isn't a negotiation," Synyc said fiercely, staring daggers into her sleepy, green eyes.
She hung her head and complied, swinging her legs over the side of the bed.
"Can you walk?" Evander asked as he supported her waist.
She nodded. "Yes. Just let me get my balance." Each word that came out of her seemed deliberate, as if she had to do a great deal of thinking to speak clearly.
Synyc moved to put a new set of handcuffs on her. These were steel, solid, and she definitely wouldn't be able to break out of them.
"Synyc? Seriously? She's not-"
"Shut up, Evander. I love you but shut up. We've had this discussion and we don't have time to have it again. I am your commanding officer and you will follow my orders," Synyc said through gritted teeth. Evander could hear a hint of a warning in his voice, but he knew Synyc was right, so he shut up. "Come on," Synyc said sharply as he directed Jolie out of the room with Evander in tow.
When they reached the ship, Jolie was finally allowed to take her restraints off. As if they'd actually hold her.
"Are you sure about this?" She asked Synyc, who was unlocking her handcuffs while Evander and Flint lifted off.
"Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?" Synyc asked.
Jolie chuckled. "Oh, I don't know, because I tried to kill your boyfriend?"
"That wasn't you," Synyc said seriously, looking her in the eye.
With that, he left Jolie in silence to join Flint and Evander in the cock-pit. Jolie just went to her old room to nap until the drugs wore off, and hopefully she'd wake up when they landed.
After an hour or so Synyc exited the cockpit to find Corr dozing off at the main table in the tiny sitting area.
He chuckled adoringly. "Corr?"
Corr blinked rapidly and then lifted his head off the table. "Hello, dear," he said with a feeble smile.
Synyc frowned. "I'd ask if you were alright, but I know you're not."
Corr shook his head. "She tried to kill me, Synyc. What do I even do about that?"
Synyc thought for a moment, unsure of what to say. "I don't know, truthfully. It was her, but it wasn't. She lost control," he explained. "It's the messed up midichlorians in her blood impacting her light and dark side balances."
"I know," Corr said. "I'm a doctor. But what if it happens again?" Suddenly fear struck his face. "She could destroy all of us, especially me. I don't have Force powers or fighting skills. And she's getting worse by the minute. She could kill all of us," Corr said fearfully, glancing at the door to her room. "What happens if we can't help her?"
Synyc rested his hand on Corr's thigh and gave it a light, reassuring squeeze. "Then we do what we need to do." He raised his other hand to trace his jawline lovingly and cup his cheek. "You're my number one priority. If it means protecting you, I'll do it. No matter what 'it' is."
Corr smiled and met Synyc's lips briefly, reaching up to run a hand through his hair. They parted and gazed into each other's eyes for a lingering moment.
"I love you," Corr said breathlessly with a smile. "So goddamned much."
Synyc smiled and felt pleasant butterflies flutter around in his stomach. They'd been dating for years and he still loved hearing those three words just as much as when he first heard them.
"And I love you, Corren," Synyc replied softly. "So goddamned much."
