She sat with her father as she counted the stones on the floor. Waiting for her father to be finished with his job it's painful but at least she gets out of the house more. Hannah and Mel sat in a row as they counter stones and made flower crowns. Their father is at the market like he is every Sunday to help with the funds their mother can't pay since she is currently sick. The girls sat on a checkered blanket on the end of the huge truck full of produce. Hannah normally helped her father but this time Mel was with them as now she is old enough to help load and sort the truck. Their father normally would come to the truck and hand Hannah a small orange wraped in cloth that she would happily eat as if she was starting. Mel was close to finishing her third flower crown when she ran out of materials. She tugged on Hannah's shoulder to tell her to go with her, Hannah complied as they ran out the truck and up the hill where the flower field was sitting on the other side. They ran down the hill at a fast speed and nearly tripled but composed their balance and kept going. When they got to the bottom Mel ran straight to the poppies sitting in the middle of the field. The girls would normally come here to collect their flowers to make the crowns to sell in their mothers shop to help with money. They made a lot of different mixes from blue to purple to both but nun the less it always helped. Hannah had collected what she had wanted and ran over to Mel who had filled her bag with purple and pink flowers. They stumbled back up the hill and back to the truck just in time to help pack up the extra fruit and other types of interesting foods. Once they finished they got in the truck and drove back home.
When they pulled up the hill the girls rushed inside with the crowns and rapped them in cloth and put them in the box for the next time they go to their mothers shop. It was always quiet in the house as mother always was sleeping and max their dog was sleeping under the tree in the back of the farm. Hannah walked into her mothers room and kissed her on the cheek before walking to the bathroom to clean her feet, hands, and legs. Shortly after Mel did the same but she also had to clean the cloth since she was the last one to use it. Their cousin Mary normally ran away from home to stay at the house for a bit so Mel left the cloth on the handle of the door for her to clean her feet. When they walked out of there bathroom they walked into the kitchen to cook dinner which was normally chicken and cream soup being that the girls were still relatively young. When the finished they put the lid on they moved to the end stove top and started to clean out the basin and the counter shelves as they left that from the morning. Shortly after the girls helped their father to bring mother out the room by her wheelchairthey sat her on the end of the table where mothers tube was. Mel and Hannah's mother had been sick for almost a year now which is why it is good to get outside. Hannah served dinner as Mel set the table up and fixed in mother's tube. They all ate in silence they didn't want to be like this but they have no choice since mother could not speak. After dinner Mary started to clean the dishes and Hannah helped put mother back in her room. Hannah's first instinct was to grab the cloth and fold it neatly back in the cupboard since she was aware that Mary and her family are currently trying to work things out, but for Mel's sake she left it out and promised that Mary would come back soon even know she knew she probably wouldn't. Hannah pulled Mel into her room and told her to change into her night clothes and that Hannah would clean up everything while she did, Mel of course refused but did what she was told for the sake of saving an argument. Once Mel was finished she went to the washroom and took the ribbons out of her hair and pulled her fingers through it, it was smooth and smelt like sweet strawberries dipped in a sweet coating of sugar Mel's favourite treat. Hannah on the other hand already had her hair down since she had shorter hair then her sister but liked to brush it anyway. After they had finished preparing they climbed onto their beds and pulled their blankets over their ankles and up above their waist. Hannah said her goodnight and rolled over to face the wall and Mel followed her lead as they slowly drifted to sleep. For several nights now Hannah has been having nightmares concluded with the fact that she has realised her mother may not survive her terrible sickness. The thought was terrifying to her as she had always loved her mother compared to her father, ever since she was little her father would always tease and abuse her because she was the oldest of the children after her brother Thomas, she hated her father still but had to help him since well her mother was in a lot of problems and now look where that illness that was said to get nowhere is now slowly killing her mother and she new it. She new if she didn't help her mother that she would die faster. So she helped her mother as much as she could. And that has been her dreams for the past. She woke up with a yelp as she quickly looked to her side to see her sister still fast asleep. Hannah stood up and walks to her kitchen to grab a glass of water. She fills it to the brim and turns the tap off, she walks to her family table. She pulled a chair seperate to the table carefully not to wake up her family she sat on the chair and took a sip of the water as she pulled out a newspaper that her father told her she couldn't read. Hannah had never really been tought to read so she had to teach herself so she could teach her sister. This had been a daily thing for the past couple of weeks, after she finished the long compressed article she neatly placed it back onto the shelf under the table and tip toed back to her room and fell back asleep since she had known she would have to wake up again very soon. Hannah knew that Mel was aware that she was up but never actually got up to the point where she would have a small panic attack, just the thought of their father catching them was frightening to Mel so she just closed her eyes to get as much sleep as she could before her father came to wake her up.
