"How much longer do we have to go? I think my legs are going to give out if we go any further."
"We've been walking for literally fifteen minutes."
Now, you're probably wondering, "What the heck?"
I'm going to be honest, I'm wondering the same thing.
I was just walking home from book club with my friend Elizabeth, when all of a sudden, I saw a bright purple light falling from the sky. There were two options. Either I ignore that bright purple thing that fell from the sky and continue on my way home, or go in the direction I saw it land and put myself in potential danger.
Obviously, after carefully analyzing the pro's and con's of both options, I choose the one that seemed most reasonable.
The second option.
That leads us to where Elizabeth and I are now. Walking through the woods at 8:30, meaning it's dark out.
And slightly chilly.
I wish I brought a jacket.
"Jane, if I die, just keep in mind that I'm going to sue you," Elizabeth says as she shoves away the tree branches that keep getting in her way.
"Since when can you sue after you die?"
"I don't know. Wait. Doesn't your brain keep working for a few minutes after you die? Maybe some scientist can scan my brain and find what I last thought. And do you know what that last thought would be? 'My beloved family, sue Jane. My death is all her fault because she wanted us to find where a purple thing that fell from the sky landed.' Then, boom, I have successfully sued you after death."
By this point I have stopped listening to her nonsense. There's no way that she'll die without me following right after her. If this thing kills her for no reason, then there's no reason why it wouldn't do the same to me.
Suddenly, a deep voice comes out of nowhere.
"Pretty sure that's not how that works."
I jump in fright as Elizabeth lets out a small shriek. I turn around to and see a dark head of of hair and a pair of dark brown eyes.
"Ben! Don't scare us like that!" Elizabeth yells. Ben just rolls his eyes.
"Wait, Ben. What are you doing here?" I question him.
"Well, I saw this giant purple thing fall from the sky and I wanted to check it out. What about you guys?"
"Us too," I respond. We continue walking through the woods towards where we think the purple thing landed. Suddenly, I see a bunch of smoke ahead of us. I freeze in my track once I see a giant crater in the floor of the woods. Around the crater, there seems to be a cloud of fog.
"What the he-"
"Um, guys? I think we found what fell from the sky," says Elizabeth, with a slight tremor in her voice.
I look ahead and see a small light of purple shining through the thick fog in front of us. I begin to feel a sort of energy coming from the center of the crater.
"Does anyone else feel that?" I question. I look over to see the both of them nodding their heads in agreement.
"I'm going to take a look," I say as I head through the fog. I can hear Liz protesting that we should go home instead as her and Ben follow behind me. I slowly make my way down the crater with my only source of light being the enchanting purple coming from the middle of the crater.
As we get closer, the fog gets thinner until it's completely gone and we can see what the purple thing that fell from the sky is.
"Guys, I think this is what fell from the sky," I say as I look at the spherical object that seems to be giving off a strong energy along with its purple glow.
"Oh. Is it now? I thought this was just a random crater that just happened to pop up out of nowhere and have a glowing purple thing sitting inside it that, coincidentally, happens to be the same exact color of the thing that fell from the sky about twenty minutes ago," Liz says in one breath. That's how you know she's either one, angry, or two, having a mental crisis. I think it's a little bit of both this time.
I reach out to touch the object when I suddenly feel a hand grab my arm to stop me. It's Ben.
"Are you sure you want to do that Jane? What if a giant creature comes out and attacks you by spitting out fireballs or something like that," Ben say.
"I guess we'll just have to find out. Do you guys want to help me or stand there and watch me?" I question them. I look over to see Liz reaching towards the spherical object along with Ben doing the same. I then reach out with them. We touch it at the same time when I suddenly see a flash of a white light. Suddenly, everything turns black.
