Hey guys, this is my first attempt at an original story so please don't be a jerk. I do appreciate constructive criticism but please don't be mean about it. I'll try my best to update every Saturday but keep in mind I do have school so I may be a little late sometimes. That's all guys, and thanks for reading my story!

Katherine's legs throb and her lungs burn but she still kept running. She runs blindly through the pitch black nothingness in hopes to escape the monster.

Where is she going? She Katherine doesn't know. Heck, she doesn't even know where she is. She can't stop though. Not with the monster behind her.

Even though she can't see it she knew it was there. She can hear its footsteps as she runs and heavy breathing as it races to keep up with her. Katherine pushes herself to run as fast as she can, her feet barely touching the ground as she runs for her life.

After what seemed like an eternity but was probably a lot shorter, the thundering footsteps finally fade and she wants to cry with relief. Katherine allows herself to slow to a stop and finds herself doubled over gasping for breath. She forces herself to slow her breathing and several deep breaths later her pulse stops pounding in her ears and she can finally think again.

She stands up straight to find her relief was short lived. She could hear the beast, closer this time. Way to close. She wanted to sob as the chase begins again. Her muscles scream in pain as she burst into another sprint and she wonders how long she can keep this up. Katherine is on the school track team but that was nothing compared to the full out chase she ran now. She shakes her head and pushes the thoughts to the back of her mind.

As she runs she notices the beast slowing. Katherine mentally rejoices at this notion and used the last of her energy to solidify her distance from the monster. The feeling of joy is instantly replaced with one of dread as she realizes why it slowed. When she steps forward she slams into an invisible barrier. Katherine trapped with the monster.

Something inside her snaps at this moment and she's no longer capable of rational thinking. She bangs on the invisible surface and screams for help, clawing at the barricade and trying to climb over it.

She hears the beast growl in her ear and spins around to see the monster six inches away from her face. Its breath smells like something she can only describe as death and when it opens its mouth Katherine found it was full of razor sharp needles.

She frantically looks for anything that can save her and a gleam of silver catches her eyes. A silver dagger lays on the ground about three feet away. She lunges for the dagger and for a moment she thinks she might make it. Then the beast grabs her by the neck.

She claws at the monster's hands trying to make it let go but if Katherine was hurting the monster it didn't show it. It slowly raised her towards its face despite all her attempts at escape. It holds her a few inches from its face and smiles, knowing the chase is over.

She goes limp for a few seconds before fighting with everything she has.

She claws at its face, kicks the thing in the chest, and yell for it to let her go.

Katherine does nothing more than offend the creature. It roars and tightens its hold on her neck. Her vision starts to dim and she knows she's about to die. Her thoughts begin to swim and she tries to scream but nothing comes out beside a mangled choking sound. Katherine's vision goes black and she bolts upright in her bed and gasping for breath.

Katherine grabs her pillow from behind her puts it up to her face and screams. "Three times this week I've fallen asleep," she moans, "Three times this week I've had this stupid nightmare."

Kathrine throws the pillow in exasperation but winces when she hears something shatter. She stumbles to the lights and flicks the switch. She sighed when she saw her broken reading lamp.

"Reading is overrated anyway," she mumbled as she tiptoed to the kitchen. Not that there was really any chance she'd wake her parents. Her mom worked nights about half the time and Katherine doubted a nuclear explosion could wake her dad. When he fell asleep he stayed asleep.

Katherine grabs a broom from the corner and heads back to her room but pauses about halfway across the kitchen. After that nightmare, she definitely deserved a Pepsi.

Katherine had been a Pepsi addict for as long as she could remember. In her mind, there was nothing more relaxing after a day of stressful school work than taking a big gulp of Pepsi. She also may or may not be the head of a soda smuggling business at her school depending on who you ask. You can ban soda from school but you can buy pretty much anything at school if you know the right people.

Katherine took a gulp of her Pepsi and crept back to her room to sweep up the broken lamp.

With her luck, she would step on a stray shard of glass on at least three separate occasions but at least her parents would remain oblivious to the accident.

After the mess was sufficiently cleaned Katherine sat at her desk and tried to draw the monster, hoping to get a better understanding of it. All she managed to do was frustrate herself due to the fact she wasn't able to focus on anything. Ah, the cons of sleep deprivation. She thought and smiled wryly.

"I just hope the test tomorrow goes well," she muttered to herself as she climbed back into her bed before putting on her headphones and blasting her music.
