"Later losers, Coach says you two have to clean the wrestling mat," Trinity said, and a few seconds after, Jason and Yoda heard the door to the wrestling room click, meaning it had locked.
"That's fucking gay," said Yoda as he went over to where the mop and chemicals were stored.
Jason was crouched down next to his bag, checking his phone for new messages as he wiped off his sweat with his sweatshirt. His mom had asked if he was ready to be picked up from practice.
"How long do you think this'll take, my mom is asking."
"Tell her I'll take you home when we're done "
"Alright, cool," Jason said, as he typed for a few seconds, then stuck his phone into the side pocket of his backpack.
Yoda was already standing on the mat, spraying the diluted bleach all across the mat, when Jason stood up and grabbed the mop to help his best friend.
He quickly started to clean, as Yoda continued to spray the chemicals.
Yoda carefully eyed Jason's arms as they flexed from the force he was using to roughly wipe the mat.
Jason was a fairly muscular guy whose skin was not much darker in comparison to Yoda's milky complexion. His light brown hair was only a little darker than Yoda's too. Jason wasn't as tall as Yoda, but he had a noticeably better body than he did.
There were a lot of times that Yoda couldn't help but feel jealous of Jason. Yoda wasn't unpopular by any means, but it always seemed like Jason made friends wherever he went, despite his quiet demeanor and resting bitch face.
Yoda was friendly towards nearly everyone he met, and unlike Jason, he had a bubbly face that was almost always smiling.
But Jason was the wrestling captain. Jason was the popular one. The coaches expect so much out of him. Everyone expected so much out of him.
Some days this would frustrate Yoda so much that he would accidentally take it out on the beginners.
But other days he couldn't tell his jealousy of Jason from his love for him.
They had been best friends for a while, and throughout their friendship it had always seemed like Jason always had a girlfriend. Even when he didn't have a girlfriend, he was always attempting to flirt with someone and someday this would prove to be more upsetting than his more-than-mild case of jealousy.
Through all of his breakups, Yoda tried to be there for him, even though Jason was never one to talk about his feelings. It felt as if even though they were best friends, Jason had put up a barrier between them, one that prevented him from sharing how he truly felt about things. That was the most irritating thing of all.
How would Yoda ever get through to him? To a guy that puts up walls even towards his best friend?
Whenever he thought of this, he knew that he would likely never have a chance with Jason, because of his inability to break through to his heart.
"Uh, Yoda? " Jason said, interrupting Yoda's thoughts, which somehow made him more irritated than he already was.
"What?" he grumbled.
"Chill, dude. Its just that you've been spraying the same spot for a minute now."
Yoda looked down and noticed the small pool of chemicals he had unknowingly created and mumbled "Fuck," under his breath.
"Its fine, I can just use this to clean the rest of the mat, but are you okay, man?" he asked, beginning to spread the pool of bleach across the mat.
"Yeah, I'm fine," he said, trying to hide his bitterness.
