Chapter Two Not Enrique

Shush!!!! Kid please!!! For merlins sake please. Don't scream!!! The green thing says in a male voice, confirming it was male, what... What are you? I whisper, wait no, this... This Isnt real. I say immediately rubbing my eyes, yet after rubbing them three times, the green thing is still there, I catch my breath, I want to scream and yell, I want to shout so freaking loudly. But know that I shouldn't, then suddenly the green thing dissapears, huh? Oh well must've just been seeing things ,whatever I shrug my shoulders,pretending that none of that has just happened and simply headed to my next class,cursing myself as I went ,what the hell had I just imagined anyway ? Whatever the heck it was,it defiantly wasn't human or normal ,hmm..I started thinking about the different possibilities when I finally reach my classroom ,art,apparently ,I took a deep breath and headed inside ,only to find my art teacher was standing there ,impatiently ,giving me a look that I was kinda scared would kill me if I so much as moved in the wrong direction or something ,my art teacher has brown hair with blue tips ,she is wearing trendy looking dungarees,along with colorful sneakers which reflected every colour of the rainbow ,I stared at her in awe and in total admiration,no teacher in middle school would be wearing something like this ,yet here she was,her dugaree Jean pocket over filled with random art bits and Bob's ,I try my best to smile at her as I skim over my classmates ,seeing who I was in this class with ,I looked at everyone one and surprisingly saw no sign of Shawn,for the first time today,I smile ,good ,now I might actually have a chance to do well in this class without shawn trying his best to talk to me .your late Lara ,the teacher says firmly ,her lips curled into a stern ,strict facial expression,sorry miss,it won't happen again ,I say swiftly and clearly as I then.proceed to finding a suitable seat,preferably one next to the window so I can simply look out of it when i get bored ,I finally found a seat and sit down on it ,placing my purple and black backpack on.the empty seat beside me ,yes well ,miss lake...the teacher begins ,suddenly someone runs in ,scaring the crap out of all of us ,I sigh and feel my heart drop as I try to stop a loud groan from escaping my lips,this guys annoying habit of being in all my classes was driving me insane .also how he talked to me after what happened earlier ? Let's just say I didn't really wanna converse with him any more then I had to ,
Sorry I'm late ,I uh got lost ,he says calmly ,the teacher just rolls her eyes at him,very well. Mr Illinois ,let me see there's a seat next to ....she begins ,I feel panic rising in me ,shit,please don't let it be me,let it be someone else.,just please please don't let it be...ahh miss lake,can you please lift your bag from the chair so Mr Illinois can sit down ? The teacher says pointing to the chair with my bag on it ,even though she said that nicely enough,I feel my stomach drop at my well intention meaning teacher as when she says those words,it feels like she has just knowingly signed my death warrant or something ,and. so all I hear is that she has now confirmed my worst fears ,and in doing so ,she has placed me in an awkward position for the rest of the year ...shit,my CRAZY cousin was in my class at school ,shit ,shit ,and triple shit,
Uh yea sure miss ,I say in as relaxed and polite a tone as I can muster ,as I go to remove the bag from the chair ,the chair is now empty as my back pack sag on the floor , I sigh as shawn now sits next to me, grinning from ear to ear, and at this point I really want to slap him, he then passes me a note when our teacher is explaining the difference between primary colours and secondary colours in art, I smiled as I assumed this was my new art class, I opened the note after waiting for the right moment when the teacher wasn't looking, I breathe out and I slip the letter under the table, I hold it and for a split second, I look down at it as I open it, quietly and quickly, I read what it says, it reads in scrawly handwriting, to lara, meet me outside the back of the school at after school,
Please give me a chance to explain.

I sighed at the letter, not becasue of how I didn't like talking to him becasue I simply didn't know what to do or think,
Should I beleive him?
Or just crumple up the letter and avoid him for the rest of the time I was in his class and in that time try to get moved up or something?
What should I do?
I thought about this decision for the rest of the class, barely being able to focus on anything else for the entire class, as the bell to end the class finally ring, freeing us all from the supervision of the teacher, I look at shawn as he's about to go, I grab his hand and look straight into his eyes, lara? Wha... He begins but I drag him out of the classroom, and look at him as I speak, my voice clear and firm at this point, OK, I'll meet ya shawn, but if you aren't there or this all turns out to be just a big prank.... Then don't ever try to talk to me again, cus....
I take a deep breath before saying, like my parents.... You will be dead to me, we clear? I say threatingly, yet a bit shocked I had said all that, was this how I really felt about my parents? That they were dead to me? I mean I would get why obviously, with the whole leaving me and never coming back or explaining why thing being preety much self explanatory, but still, was I right in feeling so much hatred towards them? Or was I maybe somehow in the wrong? I sigh and shake my head, shawn nods, Ok, I promise, I will explain.... All the bits I can. He says nodding, I nod back good, I say heading off to my next class, which was, sceince, according to my timetable, I sigh, i was thinking about what I was gonna learn from sceince in my first lesson, I wondered this quietly as I headed to my next class,
The science class started and ended quickly , with a short lesson in volcanoes and a practical demonstration about why making a fake one was a bad idea, this was evident when the volcano the teacher had made erupted, leaving only the teacher covered in goop, and soon, I was on my way to lunch, when I walked into the cafeteria, i found a table with no one else at it so I simply put my lunch tray down there, I sat and ate alone, which I didn't really mind, after I was done, I checked my phone out and saw it was only 12,15,i still had ages to go until I had to start afternoon classes at one, and so after leaving my lunch tray and my table cleared, I got up, I walked past the science classroom, I thought i saw something so I retraced my steps and saw, through the scince classroom Windows, two students, I cocked my head to the side as I hadn't seen them before or in any of my other classes, I looked at them and found I had never seen anyone who looked like them even a bit like them, the students were a girl and a boy, the boy had brown hair and brown skin, his eyes were brown as well as he wore a blue tee shirt and denim jeans, while the girl wore a red long-sleeved checked dress, with short black leggings, both students wore red sneakers, I felt my back go against the wall as I suddenly saw principle oohl come into the science room, the two students stand stunned, talking to him as the boy asks the principle something I don't quite hear, but what I do hear is the principles voice growing louder and louder, I felt certain that I had to do something, it didn't seem fair, thease students didn't look as if they understood the rules of school, not from Where I stood, so I took a deep breath, I had to do this and so I headed towards the back door to the science room, and if the principle placed thease guys in detention....i may never get to know why they hadn't of been in any of my classes, uh excuse me sir, I say as he looks as if he's about to yell at them, uh ahem, yes miss lake? I hope you have a good reason for disturbing what i was about to say? All three. People in the room turn to look at me, ummm... Shit, my mind was now blank! What excuse should I use? Uhh.... What did seniour oohl love more then anything? Then it hits me, his car!! Uh sir, some of the older students are about to vandalise your car!! WHAT?!! But how.... He says but I cut him off, sir, there's no time to argue, get your car to the back of the school, that way your car won't be vandalised I simply say, seniour ohhl nods, very well, thank you for telling me miss lake, he says as he rushes off, I sigh of relief, immediately as the principle leaves, the two students turn to me, their eyes filled with curiosity, hello, the girl with the blonde hair says, the boy stands behind her, bearing a skeptical look yet looking grateful, uh hi, I didn't see you guys in class earlier, its cool if you don't wanna tell me why but seriously, if you don't start coming to class soon, seniour ohhl is gonna be all over you two, so what are your names? I ask, the boy and girl share a look, and then nod, I'm aja, this is my brother krel, and what is your name human? Aja asks, Uhhhhhhh..... my name is lara, good to Meet you, Aja and Krel, well see you around, I say heading off, then aja, takes hold of my shoulder, taking me by surprise, hey listen, um ahem, well, thanks for standing up for us, krel says, taking me by surprise, oh... It was nothing, see ya, I say smiling as I head off,
THAT was weird, aja calling me human.... Very very weird, as the only reason that anyone called you human was that the person wasn't human,but the question was... Was aja something like an alien or troll, wait...what was I saying? No I'm insane, its probably just my paranoia on fantasy expanding. I think as I look at my phone only to see lunch time is over, crap!! I was late for my next class, I immediately high tail it to my classroom which is science, I immediately stand outside the door, and then after knocking, I head inside, sorry I was late, I mumble as I try to find a seat, I find one near the window and sit down.
For the next two hours,and the next two classes... nothing out of the ordinary happens, and finally, it's the end of school, I sigh smiling, at least that's my first day over, OK no more surprise revelations, I think as I get up and head out of the school, only to see my uncle Toby is here to pick me up, come on kid! Hurry up and get in, he yells, I head into the car only after taking a minite to stare at aja and krel as I slowly get in the car, I hear only bits of what they're saying, most of it was whispered, so who knows if I heard them right? I thought i heard them saying something that sounded a lot like, secret identity and stuff,
Whatever, those two did thank me, but they seemed weird, very weird, for example in the cafeteria, they hadn't used utensils to eat with, instead they used their hands, and in gym class, they easily climbed up the ropes, even though coach Lawrence has expressively told us that not one of us should be able to climb the top and ring the bell after one class, it takes practice according to him, Yet aja climbed up the rope gracefully like a monkey on a vine, and in maths, krel was a Genius!! Literally, even smarter then miss Janet, yet when he made a mistake he... Hugged her.... That's weird right?
Anyway, I am stopped mid thought by the loud beeping of my uncle tobys car, come on kid!!! Hurry up! He yells, looking ever so slightly irritated, losing his relaxed exterior for a second, then getting it back again after I step into the car as I slam the door shut as we speed off, after a moment, when arcadia oaks was far behind us, I look at uncle Toby, sorry I was late uncle Toby, I say earnerstly as I knew how important tobys work was to him, and I probably was interrupting, it's cool kiddo, but seriously, nothing bad happened right? He says sounding concerned,uh yea sorry, just some weird stuff happened today, uncle Toby, can I ask you something? I say bluntly, he Nodded yea sure, what is it kiddo? I take a deep breath as I ask, uncle Toby, do aunty Jane and uncle Zane have a son? I ask, suddenly I feel the car stop abruptly, uncle Toby turns to me, his face serious now, he sighs, yea, they do, it's a long story kid, I shouldn't be telling you this, he says as he restarts the car, I look at him, finding it a bit hard to beleive that my uncle Toby has managed to keep that big a secret, secret from me... Until now that is, but he didn't excatly tell me, did he?
So... So it's true i have a cousin.. And that kid at school... Wasn't playing a joke or anything? But how.... Where has he been? I ask, still unable to believe that kid had been telling the truth, and I had shut him down, shit, I guessed I owed shawn an apology, I didn't have his phone number so I would have to wait to school the next day, "kid, it's a long story, besides, your Not ready yet, he says then immediately clamps his hand over his mouth, the free hand obviously, oh crap! He says, his voice muffled, ready for what? And don't you dare lie to me!! I say firmly, trying to keep calm,
I had a cousin
A cousin I had never met,
Until today,

And the fact no one had told me about him?
That somehow made it even worse,
My uncle toby sighs, then smiled as he sees my house coming into view, why can't you just tell me? I ask, now beyond irritated at the suspense. Look kid, he sighs deeply, someday you will understand why,... But I can't be the one to tell you, thats a job for your parents to do, he says looking at the sun suddenly, I scoff, yea right, look uncle Toby, my parents aren't coming back for me! They left me for a reason, and I honestly don't care for the reason, cus they walked out on me, and never ONCE explained why!! I say as we then came to my house, and I then get out, and close the car door on my uncle Toby, he waves goodbye, I wave back and then head into the house, still shocked and exhausted at the day I had just had, which had been just full of surprises.
I walk into the house and don't see my gran or strickler, I shrug, must be out, I think as I head upstairs, I then hear grans voice, talking to someone, I sighed quietly as I knew I shouldn't be doing this, as I press my ear against the bedroom door, and I listen and hear a conversation
Hey Jim, how are you? She says and waits for an answer,
Oh she's fine, started high school today,
Look jim, speaking of her,... When are we gonna tell her?
Yes I know you and her mother want to protect her for as long as possible and I understand but don't you think she has a right to know?
Look, Jim, I know being a parent isn't easy work, trying to protect her from everything is probably what I would do but having to live with lying to her like this? It's not....

OK bye, she hangs up, as I immediately head to my room, when the door is closed behind me, I take out all my fears and angers on my pillow, after I'm done, my pillow looks battered and bruised, I sighed as I placed it back on my bed, I felt angry becasue now I knew for sure people were hiding things from me, I was afraid becuase,... I didn't know what they were hiding or even WHY they were hiding it, still I could hardly beleive that shawn was right, oh nuts shawn!! I had told him I would meet him after school! Crap! I think as I immediatly head downstairs, having left my back pack down I head out the door and run to my school, finally i see it in the distance, and then I see a figure, with raven hair and green eyes, I smile, relieved, shawn!! I say as I run up to him, he looks at me and places one hand on his hips, hey, you forgot huh? He says teasingly, oh yea sorry I say as he leads me to behind the school, where there is a small garden and benches along the sides, I take a seat, exhausted from all the running and rushing as shawn sits ne xt to me, so..... Toby told you huh? He guesses, I try to speak but can't remove the shock from my voice as I utter, i... Uh... Yea he did, turns out you were actually telling the truth, you are my cousin, but there's something I don't understand.... I lead off, wanting him to guess what that is, and to my joy, he gets it, yea, your probably wondering where I have been huh? Well... I'm. Not sure if your gonna belive me lara, but.... I know you feel like everyone is keeping secrets from you.... And your right... They ARE keeping stuff from you and... And they wanted me to do it too but.... I can't... Not now that I know... He leads off sounding scared, you know what? What is it? I ask, curious as to what he was gonna say next, shawn looks around him, carefully examining the area, probably to make sure no one was watching us, still I knew it, I knew my family had been hiding stuff from me... I just didn't want to admit it, I thought my family were the same people I was supposed to trust with all my heart, how could I ever trust them again if I knew they were hiding stuff from me like they had been doing probably all my life? Maybe I wasnt even their child!! Maybe my real parents were out there looking for me, maybe i had been taken away from my real parents by the lakes, but for what reason, no I was a lake, it said so on my birth certificate, which I had found in granny's room when I was 10.i knew how to read so I understood it, I placed my hand over my parents names and whispered, Claire Nunez and James  Lake Jr, as if placing my hand on their names in the golden brass lettering would somehow bring them back to me, but they never did, nothing, sorry anyway uh.... Hmm how do I say this? Oh yes, he says as if a light bulb has gone off in his head, he sits back down again, takes a deep breath, and speaks in as firm and clear a voice as he can muster, OK lara, the thing is,... He begins, then he is cut off by a loud growling sound, I turn around to face a great giant Griffin like creature, my breathe catches in my throat, as I stare at the great beast, it is of a grey colour, it's claws are sharp, its legs long yet sturdy, its eyes are a dark red, glaring at us as it snarls at shawn and me, shawn immediately steps in front of me, lara.... Run!!! Shawn yells, I scream at him, no I won't leave you!! I say grabbing his hand as he suddenly nods at me and takes my hand and we run..
We continue running through the back of the school, through the car park with the Griffin thing following us, still snarling at us, as it follows behind us like a beast hunting it's prey,we run, until finally we reach the canal , the bridge over us, with vechiles driving over us, causing a lot of bumping noises.
I immediately panic, why have we stopped, hang on! He says bringing out a key of some kind and.... Putting it into the wall, we we are now in the canal, the stony bridge above us, the concrete and cement holding it up standing tall, what the hell are you doing?!! I hiss, he silences me, he then opens something up and we are both pulled inside, shawn then gets up from impact and locks it, trapping the screeching creature outside, as we hear it scream and yell, I take a peek and watch it burn to ashes, come on lara, shawn says suddenly seeing me, I nod, shaking from what I had just seen and experienced,
I'm sorry hold up! I yell at shawn as he turns to see me, what the frig was that?!! Cus this wasn't normal! Like wha.... I say breathless from all the running, wow, I really needed to attend more gym sessions because I barely survived...... Whatever that was.ok lara, you need to calm down, yelling won't help anything, will it? Shawn says calmly, he seemed to be unaffected by the events that had just taken place, calm down? CALM DOWN?! I say looking at him menacingly, yea right, I'll calm down!!! Shawn I don't know what that was, but it sure as hell wasn't human or part of the animal kingdom!! Shawn you have to tell me what's going on, what everyone has been trying to keep from me, he looks at the ground, I didn't want to be the one who told you this lara, I was supposed to protect you, yet I could've gotten you killed! He says looking at me, his eyes full of seriousness, genuinely caring that has all happened, I guess he cared more then i thought, he sighs OK, follow me, maybe showing you will be better then telling you, he says as he heads down a starry spiral stair case, I take a deep breath, then look at behind me, I sigh deeply and know I should go with shawn, so I head done the staircase, when I reach the bottom what I see Eludes me,
It looked like there had been a war here, then it looked to been abdoned, dust hung thick from walls of stone, even a bit of fungus growing on the walls, I continue following shawn, suddenly I hear grumbling noises coming from behind me, no arrgh, you cant scare them now, I hear a familiar voice say , uncle toby? I say slowly turning around, he nervously smiles as he suddenly stands in front of a big green creature, his voice sounds nervous and is laced with uncertainty,
Hey lara, what are you guys doing here? He asks, the confident uncle I had always known seeming to Have disspeared, leaving an anxious and clumsy uncle Toby in his place,
Whos behind you uncle toby? I ask folding my arms, this should be good, only a secret trapdoor could save him now, I looked for any trapdoors and didn't find any,
Nope, looked like he was on his own,
Who? There's no one behind me, he says innocently, grinning nervously I sighed, really? So hearing you call somone arrgh was all my imagination then? I ask, at this i hear shawn yell, hey lara are you coming or not?.... Hang on... Toby?!! Arrgh?!! He says in surprise, Toby face palms him self, looking frustrated, I giggle a bit, even though I had almost died from it, just over ten minutes ago, nice one shawn, he says sighing exasperatedly, sorry so what are you guys doing here anyway? Shawn asks coming in front of me, looking straight at Toby, my uncle Toby now folds his chubby arms, green eyes looking us up and down, excuse me dude? I think considering you guys shouldn't be here never mind anywhere near here, I think you should both tell me why you guys are here!! You promised Jim.... Uncle Toby says now looking at shawn sternly, I know, but I was talking to lara when..... He leads off, sorry what were you guys talking about? Uncle toby asks, to be honest I don't see what that has to do with... What were you guys talking about? Uncle toby asks again, shawn looks at me for a moment, then looks back at Toby, wellll OK so I was gonna tell lara........ Stuff which was no big deal, anyway we were talking when the Griffin thing came after us, I don't understand why tho, those things only come after you if your their target, in this case,... I think the Griffin thing was targeting me for some reason, don't know why, I escaped from kraingar ages ago. He explained, Toby gasps, oh my gosh, so.... it's true, krain gar is.... Oh my gosh we have to tell Jim and claire!! Uncle toby says panicking, wait wait wait, who's kraingar? And what does he have to do with my parents? Also... Is that where you were... All this time? Escaping this krain gar dude? I ask, he nods, yea, lara, you need to be told everything now,... I don't think we can wait any longer to tell you.... He says sighing deeply, I simply nod, unsure of what all this meant, were my parents in danger? If so would I have to go on a quest to save them? If I did,... Would I even survive? I didn't even know who this krain gar guy was but if he had managed to keep shawn hostage as his prisoner for all those years for which I had lived without a cousin,unknowing I had even had one, he or she must be a preety strong yet evil warrior for keeping somone imprisoned for so long, without a proper reason, but shawn, Jim said... Uncle toby says looking at me ever so slightly, plain worry and fear in his eyes, shawn clears his throat, Jim said to do whatever it took to protect his daughter, back then it was.... Shawn begins, uncle toby silences him, it meant keeping stuff secret from her, I fold my arms when hearing that, sorry kid, uncle toby says, I sigh, it's ok, so are you all gonna tell me everything or not? I ask, uncle Tony and shawn look at each other and nod, take a seat kid, there's a lot to go through! Uncle Toby says, trying to remain optimistic, I nodded, this should be interesting.....
