Abandoned. This place was abandoned, except for the young lad sitting on the edge. He had short, light caramel brown hair that glistened in the light, making it look like it was a golden brown. His attire was ragged and dirty, patches of other fabrics sewed onto his rolled up smokey grey pants and white oldish shirt, covered with dirt from the desert-like ecosystem. He wore a brown cloak that went down to his waist, the cloak put together by a tear like gem, a blue sapphire to go into detail.
The train station was in the middle of a desert, yellow tall grass growing around it. A bit western to the naked eye, but a closer look might show to see the unwinding truth of a dessert, a middle of nowhere landscape. A station abandoned yet so sturdy yet so worn down stood in the middle of this landscape, the young lad still there, sitting on the edge, knowing the place was there and empty. This was his home and he would've rather left it that way from leaving his family and somehow ending up here, an endless void of dessert in a zone where time just freezes up, nothing moves, nothing changes. The lads name, well we didn't really know his real name, they just call him sam. Now Sam was a bit of a quiet kid, always in thought, his brain always in motion, wherever his mind went, so did his thoughts. It was never on purpose, it was always an accident; or at least what his mind thought it was. His parents never paid much attention to him and neither did his siblings, so he walked out, age fifteen and already leaving home, it was a shocker right? He ran away, and there was no real reason to how he got here either, he just showed up. He had no recall of the past or what was gonna happen, all he knew was that he had to be here, right now— right here— right time.
Now Though he was alone, he always felt like he was being watched, and it was starting to get on his nerves. Sam after a long time, had lifted his head up as he looked at the rusty railroad ahead of his lonesome body, his lonesome soul. Gazing at the railroad he soon realized he wasn't alone, A train, a rusty, old, 1920 black train. In the distance it roared with a loud and sudden hoot as it got closer and the details showed more, it wasn't rusty, It had a bit of an auburn color to the sides of it that came in streaks to go with the pitch glossy black that went with it. Sam looked at it for a minute, stood up straight, and backed a little ways from the edge to make sure he didn't get hit and die. The train then rolled into the station and stopped with a loud screech, halting in its path. The doors to each part of the train suddenly opened with a screech and the sound of steam releasing, Sam pausing and having some small time with hesitation only for a moment before grabbing the small bag on a stick he called luggage to take on with him.
Sams skinny arms reached down to the bottom of the stick, lifting it up slightly to go and lay on his shoulder. He was ready. Ready to go, or well at least he thought he was. He stared at the steps to the door, pausing like he always did before taking a step towards his destination, and his journey! Though only as soon as he knew where exactly he desired to go directly to.
The inside was nice and clean with a lavender and cherry red flooring, stripped and starting with the lavender before going to the red and back to the lavender. The wood was varnished making it with a glossy tone of oak wood, making it almost look slippery to the touch, covered in water like slippery. Each door to each room slid open with ease, no squeak and no hassle to open it. The glass on the doors went to the top before having a curving turn then going downwards to the flat bottom, the glass was then tinted in a sudden light blue to make it appear to be a bright ocean water look. Sam slid the door open with the said before ease then going into the small compartment room, a place at the bottom and top to put luggage in the small yet roomie space, the floor was the same as the hallways outside of the compartment but the fabric on the seats were a cinnamon color with green lines to make it plaid and mix matched compared to the rest of the trains design. Sam glanced around at the room before slowly coming in and sitting down on the seat, sinking down into it slightly.
The doors then shifted to close on their own before seeming to lock tightly shut, not letting even Sam out or into the small space. Sam sighed before deciding to look out the window at the nice looking landscape he was in just a few minutes ago, maybe even a few seconds ago. Soon afterwards there was a loud toot of the large horn, reminding of old cartoons you would see when you were little, innocent and childish, very different back then from now. Now things have changed, people don't care, everyone's lost hope and are just wasting the days away until they die, at least that's what Sams view of the world was. Just an endless void of over population and money, where animals just die off and we don't stop it, just like a caribbean monk seal, we killed it, at some point, kicked it's behind off the cliff and just said goodbye to the species all together.
But that didn't really matter to Sams species, beast is what he sometimes called them, he was just happy to be away from them at this point, far away from smoky air, large cities, those things in general. Suddenly the train jerked forward and snapped Sam out of his thoughts, he blinked a bit before rubbing his eyes and looking back outside to see that the train was now moving, and hopefully he didn't need a ticket. Sam didn't manage to find a figure in the booth and there weren't any tickets either, so this may have been just a simple free train ride. Right? The train was slow at first but surely sped up as it continued in its march forward towards it's next destination where he will surely be bombarded with socialization and figures of all kind boarding the nice calm train.
Sam hated it, and he hoped he would get off the train in time before people started getting on board towards his position. The young lonely boy just sighed, relaxing a little as he sighed slightly, trying not to think about it as he went to look through his small amount of luggage. Inside wasn't much due to it just being a small piece of fabric on a firm strong stick Sam had found at the park. There was a nice orange gem he shaped to look like the roundness of a pumpkin, an orange and ripe pumpkin. Oh how Sam loved the holiday where you got to scare others and get candy from strangers for free, he loved the holiday with his heart, almost like someone would love their family, it was perfect for him, but not his family. Sam's family was serious, they didn't approve of creativity or outdoor fun, His mother is a strict high school teacher, his father is a lawyer, he had an older brother and a baby sister, his brother was at least a civilized brother, a doctor in fact. His entire family, well except for his sister was the reason he was here now, going farther and farther from home, they had first refused him to go along with the holiday tradition and when he tried to object his father had a fit of rage, yelling that he would be going to a boarding school for misbehaving children. Sam had ran, ran after almost his entire family agreed it was the best thing for him, Sam didn't want to be what his family wanted him to be, he wasn't perfect, no. Though he didn't know how he got here exactly, Sam was glad to just be away from the figures who loomed over his very existence everyday of his life, it was like heaven to Sam to be away from them, though he regretted leaving his sister behind, the poor young girl only at the age of six.
Who knew what Sam's sister would be doing right now, wondering where he was or why her parents were probably throwing a toddler like fit. In the end she would end up like the rest of them, serious and unloving, a robot, like his father had wished he had instead of children. Sam just sighed, it was ok now, he was far away from them, gone, and he was happy. Almost happy that is. He was alone, and he didn't mean to admit it but he hated being alone, hated being the only one, a lone survivor of any crash or disaster, he would even hate being the only one alive on the planet! Sam sighed as he kept thinking about his life before there was a small click, Sam glancing at the door before it swung open with ease. Standing there was a jolly looking male, different from the usual conductor look though.
He wore a light brown vest with a white fancy tuxedo looking outfit under it, he had black dress shoes on and white pants to go with the rest of the outfit, he had a pocket watch and white gloves to match with his weird little old styled themed world around him. The most weirdest thing about him though, was his jack-o-lantern head! It was a round and head sized pumpkin, It had perfect triangle eyes and an upside down heart for a nose like a skeleton would have, it's smile was big with its jagged sharp teeth showing visibly and glowed brightly. Sam seemed nervous about this as he stared at the pumpkin man, unsure of what to do exactly.
"Howdy camper! What brings a young one like you here?"
The pumpkin mans mouth moved, making this incredibly impossible to be real.
"You're.... Real?! How? Pumpkins aren't supposed to be alive! Or move their mouth!" Sam had so many questions.
The pumpkin conductor just laughed at his questions and gazed down at him, his
friendly smile becoming creepy for the young boy he stood in front of. He wasn't meaning to be scary but to the point where he saw sweat down the young Sam's face he thought it was enough.
"Look kid, i'm not meaning to be scary, and i'm alive because you can do pretty much everything if you put your mind to it. So since you're a kid I thought you would have just seen the imaginary part of this ride, which means you're one of those older kids right? You know, age fifteen or sixteen maybe, less imaginary one then usual."
"I'm fifteen, and my parents never liked my creative side, they said it was too colorful and stupid."
The conductor sighed and looked at Sam, it wasn't much of a big deal to him, he was just worried, at least worried about something that wasn't Sam that is. The conductor opened up his pocket watch checking the time before looking at Sam once more.
"Your name is Sam right? The train was expecting you to be on, so don't worry about the tickets, and you won't be needing the luggage either, It's useless to bring it on the train anyway."
The conductor grabbed the bag connecting to the stick, confiscating it and making it out of Sams reach. Sam's eyes widened a little and he instinctively reached out to try and grab his stuff, knowing he treasured that stuff of his a lot. The conductor just laughed a little, knowing how childish the kids act was.
"C'mon! Give it back! That's my stuff!"
"But you don't really need it do you?"
Sam stopped after that sentence, the guy was right after all. He didn't need all that stuff in there truly, he just felt like he needed to have something with him if he were ever in starvation or hungry. Sam sighed and and took a step back from the pumpkin head, allowing the older and taller man to take his stuff away.
"Time is eighteen to four! Snacks!"
The conductor clapped his hands twice and Sam seemed to sit back down, confused before the pumpkin went to the center of the room, pulling a seed from his pocket, a tiny acorn for the oak tree, and dropping it to the floor.
"Are you going to pick it up?"
"Shhh, give it a second you ignorant child."
Sam crossed his arms and legs, frowning as his face just turned back to the floor to where the acorn was. Getting devoured by the floor. The seed was getting eaten by the nice looking fabric, reminding Sam of a movie where a house was alive and ate people, he hated that part. The seed soon disappeared and quickly in its place roots and a plants rapidly grew in its place until a wooden table was formed, the leaves was the surface of the table, hardening and bundling up together with one another to form the hard, wood like surface. The bottom was the trunk and it was rooted into the floor where the seed had been dropped.
The conductor whistled a little tune as he looked at sam. Satisfied with his overstayed work he's done here, spinning in a one eighty degrees motion and leaving the room.
"Enjoy the food! You'll be needing it!"
Sam had stared at the conductor as he left, confused before he watched a swarm of tree colored butterflies swarm into the room. Sam hudled himself into a ball, tucking his knees into his chest and moving his head down for he was unsure of what would happen as he panicked a little. It was idiotic for sam to be scared of this, but it's a swarm of them! All at once and all of a sudden too. But soon they had vanished, seeming to completely go away, leaving Sam now in a compartment with a table of food. A small cup of apple slices with the skin peeled off and a glass of milk with a green plastic straw that twisted to look like a spring almost.
Sam let out a long sigh, this place had just gotten weirder than seeing a man with a pumpkin head and a train from the past. Sam glanced around the room for anyone watching before just smiling a little, glad to be by himself for the moment being, then reaching out he grabbed the milk and started drinking it, quenching his thirst. He didn't know why, but ever since he can remember, he was hungry. Hungry and thirsty for what felt like days on end, he was just grateful to get something to eat, he felt content, happy in others minds, but to Sam, he was hungry. The crunchy sound of the apple was satisfying as he bit into it with his teeth, looking out the window once more and enjoying the scenery. Hopefully sam wouldn't have to deal with the pumpkin head again or else he would hop right off the train well it's in motion! Stupid pumpkin.
