a style of Japanese film and television animation, typically aimed at teens and adults as well as children.
+ anime is roughly short for 'animation', ranging from a variety of different plots and genres for every age group.
+ unlike american cartoons, anime typically has a set of episodes that connect to one another. this allows the audience to connect with the characters and see their development as the story progresses.
+ most mainstream animes are adapted from manga, visual novels, or video games. they typically contain 1-12 or 13 episodes in one season, however it all depends.
+ some anime genres include slice of life, shounen, shounen ai, shoujo, mecha, science fiction, drama, action, ecchi, harem, etc...
*Note that anime is originally voiced in Japanese however some animes contain English dub, in which you do not have to read subtitles. I personally reccomend trying out the Japanese subculture first before going straight to dub as a newcomer. It is common that some not as popular animes I will be listing may not contain dub so getting used to reading subtitles may come as an advantage.*
*Most people watch anime on services such as Netflix and Hulu. They usually contain both sub and dub although may not update as fast as anime on a website.*
*I highly reccomend using sites such as kissanime.ru, gogoanimes.co, and 9anime.to. In my opinion, kissanime is the best because of it's wide selection of anime and easy to use interface. There is also kisscartoon and kissmanga as well*
