William stared at the girl with Jessica as they walked towards their study group table. She was dressed in jeans with a black button up shirt and a black sandals. Her hair was braided into twists which she had held up in a high ponytail. This was on a hot Wednesday afternoon at a nearby garden where university students normally met to learn. As usual, everyone was quite eager to know who Jessica had brought along with her and immediately they both sat down, their tutor, Gerald immediately asked her what her name was. She looked at Jessica before answering. My name is Boatemaa and Im a law student, she said and smiled. William stared at her in awe, a little bit too much as the guys noticed it and begun to tease him. He felt like being swallowed up since he was scared that Boatemaa would hear what was going on and he was a very shy person. The guys later stopped and they started to learn but William still couldnt focus, Boatemaa was very pretty even as she learnt separately from them since they were business students. He realised she kept on checking her phone for something, A boyfriend?, he thought and prayed that it wasnt so.
Soon, the session came to an end and as usual they all stayed back for a while to talk in groups based on their gender. The guys as usual were focused on arguing about football teams but William wasnt focused on that. He really wanted to approach Boatemaa but he was shy and this got the notice of the guys again which resulted in more teasing. Arnold got up smirking, I'm going to get her for you, he said before walking up to where the girls were despite Williams pleas. William began to sweat in his palms, a feature of his which he wanted to get rid off. He was very nervous and as he overheard Boatemaa tell Arnold that she was dating he became very disappointed. The guys laughed as they realised his disappointment but to his surprise Arnold did not stop talking to Boatemaa and he became even more embarrassed as he felt the girls turn to look at him. Boatemaa smiled and waved at him making his heart skip a beat and he quickly waved back awkwardly making Boatemaa wave back.
After a while, Boatemaa got up to leave and as she passed by him, the guys pulled William up from the bench to talk to her to his dismay. He stood before her shy as ever and she laughed again before asking him for a hug which he sheepishly complied to before he saw her off to her car. On that day, William swore to have her.
(six years later)
Boatemaa despite all the advice she had received from her friends about leaving William for a richer guy had stayed with him and it had certainly paid off. She had stayed with through the thick and thin after leaving her boyfriend and finally accepting Williams proposal. She had found out he had great business plans which he planned to use to get his family out of the slums he grew in and to provide a beautiful life for her. She had received tempting proposals from a lot of men and at a point her parents had to intervene for they were frightened of what her end with William would be but Boatemaa had stood her ground. Had it paid off? Yes it did, Kinda. William had become one of the youngest billionaires in Ghana at just the age of twenty-four and had fulfilled all his promises he made to a lot of peoples shock. He owned a lot of companies and shares in popular companies and had lots of properties. Was she happy for William? Yes she was, but she had come to find out the hard way that money changes people which included William as well.
Boatemaa stared at the rose petals on the white marble tiled floor , the white silk table cloth which was covered with Williams favourite food which she had personally cooked after rushing home after six hectic cases at court and the candles she had run out to buy to make today more special before reading the text from him on her phone again, Im sorry I cant make it, lets postpone it to another time. Ill be home late. She sighed and called for the maids to clear everything up before getting up to her room. On her way she took notice of every detail she passed by, the expensive furniture from Italy, the glass staircase, the huge piano, the chandelier and tried to compare it with the tiny one bedroom apartment she and William lived in after University trying to figure out their lives. What was the difference? He was always around. He was there when she was rejected countless of times by firms rubbing her back while she cried in his arms and he always made them celebrate the day he proposed to her which was exactly six years today but today here she was being stood up after being assured by him that he would show up. She had heard rumours of him cheating but she wouldn't believe them. William wouldn't do that to her not after her risking everything for him and moreover they had no proof. She knew people wanted to tear them apart in order to be with him and she was very careful , especially since he knew he was about to propose soon. She shut her door and got into her bed trying not to think about the greatest risk she had taken for him, an abortion.
Boatemaa smiled as Alice her best friend, handed her a glass of champagne as she sat down on a sofa in her lavish and expensive boutique. Youre really doing well Alice, she complimented as she sipped her champagne, making Alice laugh before joining her on the sofa. Thanks to your help and support, she hugged her making Boatemaa playfully push her away giggling. I went home yesterday, Alice began saying wiping the joy of Boatemaas face at once making Alice sigh. As usual they said to tell you that they are waiting for William to take the right steps, Alice said. Boatemaa placed the glass on a side table next to her. Why wont they ever leave me alone? When William came to propose they rejected him because he didnt have a dime now they want him now?, she said annoyed. Alice glared at her, You cant Blame them B, youre almost getting to your thirties and youre with a man who hasnt showed any sign of proposing, what do you want them to do? she said silencing Boatemaa. Its different being known as a girlfriend and being known as a wife, I hope you know that?, she staring at Boatemaa dead in the eye. She sighed as Boatemaas eyes glistened with tears and instantly felt bad. Boatemaa was very beautiful with dark skin and the most prettiest pink lips and a thick body. She knew the moment she broke up with William she would find a perfect suitor and this made the thought of William annoy her. She sometimes wished she hadnt forced Boatemaa into accepting his proposal cos she definetely would not have been in this terrible state. She quickly hugged her comforting Boatemaa and regretting what she had said
William smiled as he looked at the diamond ring he had been able to purchase and customize for his proposal as he sat behind his recently purchased black mercedes-benz. He was so excited for tonight because he could finally make Boatemaa his. He had been so busy to the extent that he had completely abandoned her and he felt very sad about that but it wasnt completely his fault. He was trying to secure a better life for the both of them once they officially settled. He knew there were rumours circling about him regarding infidelity and he was actually proud that Boatemaa didnt believe them. Honestly he had been working and his close employees could serve as his witnesses. He wouldn't lie and say there hadn't been any temptation of course there had been and they would always be there. He was very handsome with smooth dark skin, a well kept beard, a toned body and of course his 64 height alongside his wealth, who would be able to resist him but he made a promise to Boatemaa on the day he proposed to her that he would always be faithful and he had kept that promise. He actually appreciated and cherished all what Boatemaa had done for him. She was even prepared to leave a good life behind to follow him to the slums. She believed in him so much than he ever did in himself. Once the car got to his premises he got out and immediately called for his butler to make sure that everything was being planned out perfectly and all the important family members were present.
Boatemaa got home a bit tipsy and sad. All she wanted to do was in climb in her bed and cry herself to sleep while listening to some depressing songs. She knew he was home which would be shocking for her on a normal day since most of the time he came home late but honeslty at this point she didnt care. He had made her a laughing stock in society. As she entered the room she could hear him taking a shower and sat on her bed while taking off her heels. His phone kept on beeping meaning he was receiving a lot of messages, which was completely normal but this time it the beeping was a lot which caused Boatemaa to take his phone. She froze as she read what was displayed on the screen. William Im pregnant. I dont know what to do. You promised to help me do something about this when this comes up, she read over and over again. Boatemaa began to feel dizzy. She sat on the bed and plaed the phone down and began to think. Tears began to well up in her eyes. So the rumours were true she thought. William was cheating on her. She picked up the phone once again and sulked. She stared at the bathroom door while listening to him as he hummed in the shower. She knew if he came out of the bathroom and she demanded an answer, he would lie to her again as he had been doimg for who knows and she would definetely stay cos she loved him. She was tired of all this and she wasnt ready for more humiliaton. She got off the bed and put on bathroom slippers and grabbed her purse with her cards and left the room, the house and the city for good.
