kyungsoo bustled his way down the busy train, his suitcase dragging behind him as he struggled. it wasn't easy being tiny but god damn if he would let that stop him. he finally sank down into a nice quiet window seat and let out a sigh. kyungsoo shuffled in his seat and smoothed down his suit jacket as he got himself more comfortable. he had been given a big promotion at his company and with his new executive status came a celebratory two week holiday. this was something kyungsoo could handle, he figured he would just stay in his apartment for a fortnight and catch up on all the books he had attempted to read over the past year. but no fate had never favoured do kyungsoo and his mother had gotten word of his break before he had chance to lie about it.
she had called him as soon as he had stepped foot into his new office; her voice practically screeched down the phone demanding he come home to visit for once. kyungsoo groaned internally as she put him through her regular guilt trip routine. he practically had it memorised by now but for once he had no solid excuses to go along with. he was trapped. shit.
so now here he was sulking on the long train ride back home like a child. he had used every trick in the bad son book to stay as far away from that town as he physically could. but sometimes shit catches up to you and you end up spending your summer in a shitty rural town full of boring ass old people who knew you when you were a baby and assholes who bullied you. kyungsoo slammed his head agains the glass window with a dull thud. he just wanted to be at home with his books.
kyungsoo stepped off the train onto the quiet platform. not many people were around which he expected, who would come here on purpose?? he lugged his bags to the station entrance and was suddenly attacked by hugs and kisses. the sudden commotion made his brain jump three dimensions straight to oh fuck i'm gonna cry land. after he had regained at least one of his brain cells he took in the sight of his parents and other random relatives flicking around him. damn he didn't even know who some of these people were anymore.
his mother took his bags and instantly dumped them on her started husband who just did a dad noise which probably meant something like "god dammit i'm too old for this shit but i love you so ill do it, but not without letting everyone KNOW i hate this". kyungsoo was carried away on a tide of conversation and "you've gotten so big!!"s. his mind couldn't take in all of the conversations so he resorted to using his default dealing with people responses of "uhh" , "umm yeah how have you been" and "yeah i'm doing good". this approach always worked he was a genius at socialising, who could ever say he was an introvert with skills like this.
the car ride to his parents house was filled with his mother asking him question after question about every single aspect of his life while his dad chipped in with the occasional "good job son". kyungsoo felt like he was giving the shittiest ted talk about his life as a boring HR person that no one in their right mind would turn up to. his mother however, had a thirst for intimate knowledge about his daily routines that was unquenchable. his clothes were beginning to annoy him and it took all he had not to have an actual tantrum in the backseat but kyungsoo played along as best he could.
it felt like heaven to finally shut himself in his old bedroom for the night. he placed his bags on the floor and gazed at the shitty posters and old school things strewn about his room. it all felt so foreign like a life that didn't really happen but still felt tangible. he hung up his suit and put on an old pair of comfy pjs which to his dismay, were still slightly too big despite being over a decade old. he stared at the ceiling and huffed loudly in order to convey that "he already wanted to go home but he was stuck here for two fucking weeks and at this rate he was pretty sure he would die from this" to the empty room. maybe he could just sleep to pass the time.
