CHAPTER 1

“Bridget? Are you awake?” a voice asked me.

“Yeah, I am. Where am I?” I asked the voice who I noticed was Alexa.

“You’re in the hospital. ICU to be specific. Do you remember what happened before you passed out?”

“I was driving and something hit me. A bullet I think.”

“That’s a plus; you didn’t lose your memory.”

“How long was I out for?” I asked.

“Five hours. It’s not too bad. The nurse said you have to stay in the hospital for a week, and then you’ll be back to normal.” Alexa explained.

“Is the bullet still in my arm?”

“No, they took it out as soon as you got here.”

“Wait, how did they know about me? Who called 9-1-1?”

“A guy brought you in, but he wanted to stay unknown. For some reason, he doesn’t want you to know who he is.”

“Did you see him?” I continued to question.

“Yeah, but I’ve never seen him before in my life. I’m almost certain he doesn’t go to our school.”

“Okay, but if you ever see him, tell me. I want to thank him.”

“You should get some rest.” Alexa stated. “I’ll come see you again later. Bye!”

***

When I was alone, a thousand things were going through my mind.

Who shot me? Was it on purpose? Who’s the guy that brought me here?

I knew I was going to get all of my answers from the same place; the guy who brought me to the hospital. But how was I going to find him?

My thoughts were interrupted by a nurse who wanted to make sure I was doing okay.

“How are you feeling?” the nurse asked.

“I’m fine I guess. Still in shock.”

“That’s totally normal. We’ll get you a therapist to help with that overwhelming feeling you have.”

“Okay.”

“Let’s just test your memory real quick. What’s your name?”

“Bridget Maden.”

“How old are you?”

“I turned 18 last week.”

“What are your parent’s names?”

“Anne Maden and Frank Maden.”

“And one last question, what day are we today?”

“Today is Friday, July 6th.”

“Very good!” You haven’t lost any memory. We’ll keep you here for a week to make sure you heal properly and then you should be good as new.”

“That’s great! Thank you!”

“Do you have any questions Bridget?” the nurse asked.

“Just one. Do you know who brought me here?”

“It was a boy about your age. He didn’t say his name.”

“Have you seen him around since he dropped me off?”

“He came about twenty minutes before you woke up but left when he saw you weren’t awake.”

“Okay, well if you ever see him, tell him I say thanks.” I requested.

“I’ll do that. See you later Bridget.”
