Being an Author

Being an author doesn't mean I have a published book or five stars- as most people say. It means, working hard to get a good plot. It means staying up to unearthly times of the night to hurry and write an idea down so I don't forget. It means loving my characters and nurturing them to the point of success in the end. It means being passionate in my art, and sharing what I believe and feel with others. It means criticising my work endlessly to make it perfect, not just for the public, but for me as well. It means hours of staring at the words I've written with a thoughtful scowl as I edit my story. Being an author takes a lot of work and practice like any other profession. Being an author, I can make a person-and myself- gasp, cry, and laugh all in a few chapters. I can inspire and teach people. But most important of all, I can create something beautiful to glorify the One who created us. He created us to create. And to create for Him is the most amazing joy He has allowed us. All of these things show the ingenuity of God, not man. So as an author, our whole purpose is to create for God. Whether I realize it or not as I am writing a novel, I'm proving God's perfect design.

I love this so much. I am always coming up with different stuff like this to tell people how I feel about my writing. I have some people who have discouraged me in the past because they say,
"You're not an author! You've never had anything published!"
and maybe some of y'all have too.
I understand how discouraging those words can be but trust me! If you love writing then you're an author! No matter the rating you have on your books or if you've published one, you're writing is beautiful in its own way and that is enough!
