I woke up to a sore head. I looked up from my chair to see the flight attendant just past me pushing the food trolley. The smell of aeroplane food hit me. The flight attendant must’ve hit me with the trolley when she was passing. I had slept for most of the flight and that left me extremely thirsty.

“Excuse me, could I please get some water?” I called to the flight attendant.

She turned around to face me, sighed, and started to pour me a cup of water. “Would you like something to eat? We have beef casserole and mash potato, or fried Asian noodles.” She passed the cup of water to me and gestured towards the trolley.

I took the cup of water and placed it on the tray against the seat in front of me. I checked my watch quickly. It was just past midday and I was a little hungry. “Could I please get the fried noodles?”

She nodded and passed me a small tray covered with foil. I placed it on the tray in front of me and thanked her. I took the foil off and looked at the contents. Noodles and vegetables with chicken pieces drowned in oil. A piece of bread was placed next to it and a small bowl of fruit salad. I was turned off by the smell and oil, so I ate the bread and fruit salad instead. I decided to sleep the rest of the trip, mostly because of my head but also the horrible aeroplane food smell that was making me feel sick.

When I woke up 6 hours later, the flight attendants were telling everyone to put their seatbelt on.

“Unfortunately we are hitting some turbulence so if you could please put your seatbelts on,” the speaker above me spoke.

We still had about 2 hours until we landed in Los Angeles, so I scrolled through the movies on the television. We bought a zoo immediately popped out from the rest of them. I used the remote to choose the movie and it began to play. When Colin kissed Elle, I balled my eyes out, and the man sitting next to me looked over, worried.

“Er, miss are you ok?” He ran his hands through his hair as he looked at me.

“Oh, yeah, no I’m fine. It’s just the movie, have you seen it?” I asked.

“Well that’s good,” he looked over at my screen. “I’ve seen the movie many times. I cry every time in this scene.”

I smiled at him. “So do I. I’ve seen the movie so many times and this scene gets me every time.”

He laughed, “Well, I’m a big softie. I’ll leave you to watch your movie then.” He turned towards his screen again and placed his headphones back over his head.

By the time we got out of the aeroplane it was already 8 o’clock. I walked over to the luggage carousel area and looked for my plane number. Flight 116 from Sydney was the 3rd carousel down. It was already crowded with people so I had to push my way to the front to see the luggage. As I was looking for my bright pink suitcase I could hear a small fuss behind me. I skimmed over the suitcases, deciding that I could take a quick look without missing my bag.

I turned around to see a couple of girls squealing. I couldn’t believe it but Colin Ford was standing less than ten metres away from me. I was thinking to myself ‘anytime now you are going to run over to Colin Ford and hug him and take a couple of photos and then you can say to everyone at home that you met Colin Ford.’ But I didn’t. Instead I just stared at him for ages until he walked straight past me and out of the airport. I stood there watching the door he exited from for a couple of minutes.

When I turned back round my suitcase had just passed me, so I ran past a crowd of people to get it. I reached for the handle and pulled hard. It seemed a little stuck so I gave an extra tug. My suitcase went flying into me, pushing me to floor. I landed on my back staring at the ceiling. People around me rushed over to help. I could hear a woman asking if I was ok and the suitcase was lifted from my chest. I stood up slowly, my face bright red from embarrassment. I mumbled a thank you to the woman who had pulled the suitcase from my chest and walked away from the crowd.

Maybe I had just embarassed myself in front of at least 20 people, but it was worth it, just to see Colin.

I took out my ticket from my hand bag. Wrapped around it was the details to the house I would be staying at, and the school I would be attending Cambelle Hall School. It sounded familar but I pushed it to the back of my mind, excited to finally be meeting my new host family which I would be staying with for the next 3 months.
