Where to start, where to start.
I walked down one of the many great halls of the castle. Red carpet lined the floor. On my way to lunch in the castle with my mother. i walked to the dining room and sat down at my normal seat. the table was empty, only a red cloth with a gold trim was on it. My mother was already sitting in her seat. She whistled for the maids to bring out the food. In almost no time at all, the table was full with food. Ham, salad, cherry pie, baked potatoes, bread and more were piled high in front of me. My mothers tea mug was empty, so a maid filled it up, but she accidentally poured the scalding tea on her lap. The maid froze in fear. my mother signed to me that it was alright, and i translated it to the maid. i could see the pain on my mothers face, she signed for some napkins. Maids came rushing in with towels and napkins and my mother cleaned herself off. The maid apologized and ran off. My mother hit her cup with her spoon and i grabbed the entire pie and cut myself a slice. My mother cut off a slice of the ham and put it on her plate. I took a roll and some apple butter and spread it on the roll. i took a sip of the tea and took a bite of the pie. We could hear a clatter of armour from down the hall. I stuffed the roll in my mouth, and i tried to eat some pie too.
"Miss! There is an attack on the castle, the village is nearly burned down!" Sir Fredrickson barged into the dining room, through the maids and butlers that has come to watch. my mother stood, she signaled the royal guards that were at the door to protect me, but they were already looking at me. I blushed and tried to chew my food quickly.
"Cedric, Rowan, Zane, protect my mother. Charity, Edward, Caspian, come with me." I proclaimed.
I herd my mother gasp, she was probably signing something, maybe something important, maybe she was cursing at me, i don't know. I do know i didn't look back.
"Vick, don't be foolish, we need to protect you." Edward said.
"Then go protect my mother!" I snapped at him.
Much to my suprise, he turned and walked back to the throne room. I turned and walked with the guards and Fredrickson down the hall in silence. Caspian took a dagger out of his belt and tossed it to me. I looked through the gate, the once bustling city nearly completely burned to the ground. it felt like a nightmare, everyone was screaming and crying. Many people were lying dead in the streets. it was chaos. the library, the stables, the bakery, the blacksmith. Everything, gone. I heard Caspian gasp. Horses and other domesticated animals were running around like wild animals in a forest... fire. Coronia was a small, peaceful kingdom, but it had a massive army. The navy was bigger than that of a kingdom ten times its size. whoever did this was insane. Sir Fredrickson opened the gate, the guards that were usually standing by it were gone.
"What should we do?" Caspian asked, "These people surely won-"
"PEOPLE OF CORONIA!" i yelled at the top of my lungs, "SEEK REFUGE IN THE CASTLE, IT IS SAFER!"
some people who were close enough to hear me over the roaring flames looked up and ran to us.
"Fredrickson, get them in in an orderly fashion," i said under my breath.
Ten or twenty people came running. I walked down the steps and started down the street.
"Victoria!" Caspian yelled, "Where the hell are you going?"
I turned to face him.
"I need to make sure that no one is left behind."
And at that, I turned and walked off.
"GET TO THE CASTLE!" I yelled whenever i saw or heard someone. The road got narrower and narrower, flames in nearly every window. i felt someone grab my arm. A woman with fiery (no pun intended) red hair, was clutching onto my arm.
"My-my son!" she shrieked, "He is still in my house!"
"Which house?" I asked. she pointed to the second floor of a house with flames shooting out of the windows. I grabbed her arm.
"Get to the castle steps, i will find him," i said.
And at that, she ran off. I opened the door to the burning house, flames covering the dining table and the chairs. I could hardly breathe, smoke filling my lungs. The smoke stung my eyes, but i managed to make my way to the stairs. I saw fire on the floor above me, and some of the stairs were broken. As i made my way up the stairs, i held my breath. Hopping over the top step, i got to the second floor. Flames everywhere, i couldn't take a step. i could hear screaming over the fire. Near the window, i saw a crib. Only one problem, there was fire blocking the path.
I closed my eyes and held my breath, thinking. You can't just walk through the fire, and even if you could, the baby could surely be burned. Despite my better judgment, i lifted up my dress slightly and took a step into the fire.
