Chapter 1- A new beginning

Chapter 1

Breath Alex Breath i internally tell myself as I walk to my bedroom door.

Today is the first time I go back to school after my dad's death, and it happens to be senior year too.

I pull out my new phone and text Stella to let her know what time to pick me up.

I grab a muffin off the counter and shout goodbye to my mom as I walk out of the house. I walk down the drive and hop into Stella's Jeep.

"Hey Alex"

"Hi Stell"

I smile at her and quickly ask " Stell can we stop at Toby's for coffee."

She laughs," You and your coffee addiction"

I smile as she starts to drive to Toby's for coffee.

When we finally get there I run over to Toby give him a quick kiss and order my coffee.

I forgot to mention that Toby is actually my boyfriend, we've been together for over three years now.

He hands me my coffee and I give him a quick smile and walk out.

I realize that this is going to sound bad but I've cheated on Toby nine times these past three years.

I just don't feel as attracted to him as I used to, most girls would've broken up with their boyfriends by now but I'm not like most girls. I also do realise that I'm stringing him along but these things happen.

As Stell and I drive away we see a bunch of my friends walking to Toby's. I wave and shout "Hiya you high fellows". They laugh and keep smoking.

If I'm going to admit it I'll do it now. I myself am a bit of a druggie, it started when my dad died. I fell into the wrong crowd and now here we are. I still occasionally smoke weed or sniff cocaine but I'm not as bad as I used to be.

Stella pulls up in front of the school and I sigh " damn I'm back at this hell hole again".

Stella laughs and agrees.

We walk in together but soon separate as we find our crowds.

Stella despite us being friends for over 17 years doesn't hang out with me at school, she's part of the cheersquad so shes (as she likes to call is) 'with the high and mighty'.

I just laugh at that and leave her be.

I'm part of another crew not as popular but they're still awesome.

I hang out with the...drum roll pls.

Golden boys.

That's right the schools 4 golden boys.

Sam Dales the star Baseball player.

Andy Flynn the best Basketball captain in a decade.

Brody Collins the quarterback.

And last but not least, Ryder Phillips the schools best Olympic swimmer.

Now you might think why on earth would I fit in with them, well I'm non other than the school star hockey player, so it only seems fit that I hang out with them.

They truly are the best of friends, but my only problem is, that I have a teeny tiny little crush on Ryder but I mean who wouldn't.

He has walnut brown eyes, black hair at the perfect length, and freckles lots of freckles. His freckles are personally my favourite part of him, as weird as that is to say.

But my problem is Ryder and I have been friends for over 9 years since the both of us started playing sport.

I mean I can't fall for a boy who is my best friend and a boy who is the player of the century but struggles to open up to ppl.

I can't do that to myself, can I??
