By the end of the day I was happy to get back to my cozy car. “Hey Baby.” I cooed as I turned the keys. I can’t wait to hear the engine again. But all I got was a dud sound. “Fuck” I say, slamming my head into the steering wheel. I got out of the car and pulled up the hood. In about 5 minutes I found that my battery was dead and I needed a jump. But there was one problem. “Oy, Lou!” Make that two. I turned to see Ashton and the boy with crazy hair from earlier. “What’s up?” Ashton said. “Nothing. Just fixing little Oli.” I say. But I get a confused look. All I did was point to my car. “Oh,” they exclaimed. “Well, I happen to be great with cars. Let me take a l-“

“The battery is shot. I need a jump-start” I cut the other boy off. “Hey, Mike. Go get your car. We can jump it for her.” OH! His name is Michael. “Sure thing Ashe.” Then Michael ran off. I had to admit. He wasn’t hard on the eyes and the accent wasn’t horrible. “So, Lou.” Ashton started. “What happened earlier? I mean, you ran off looking like someone shot a puppy and then Luke went home early.” I took a deep breath and explained what happened. By the end he was in tears and it wasn’t pretty. “Well then.” Michael exclaimed as soon as he saw Ash. “I’m not gonna ask.”

“Good,” I exclaim. “Soooooo,” Ashton looked a little more chipper. “Wanna come hang out? I mean the guys and I have band practice but you can be, like, our roadie. You down?” His eyes were puffy from the crying. “Sure.” I said simply then got my Jumper cables out of the trunk. “Here. I’ll do it. You probably don’t know how it works.” Michael reached for the cables but I ran and attached them. I got it right and we fixed little Oliver. “Thanks lads. Now then. Where to?” I ask.

I ended up following Michael, who drove a fucking Impala, to the Country. The whole way I was texting my mother. The conversation consisted of…

Me: Hey Mom

Mom: Hey Kiddo. How was the first day?

Me: Ok

Mom: Any new friends, cute boys, tell me all the gossip!

Me: Yes I made friends

Mom: YAY!!!! Names?!?!?!

Me: Ashton, Michael, Sandra, and Andrea

Mom: Now I may be wrong but two of those names sound like boys?

Me: Cause they are. I’m actually headed to hang out with them. They have band practice and I’m gonna chill.

Mom: Use protection.

Me: EWWW!!!!! MOM!!!!!!

Mom: Well I’m working all night tonight so you’ll have to make yourself dinner.

Me: PIZZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mom: Haha. I left my card on the table for you. Also if you do any online shopping, 1 tell me. 2 no more than $200.

Me: Ok.

Mom: Love you

Me: Love you too.

I put my phone down and tuned up the music till I was sure the guys in the other car could hear. I played Riot by Three Days Grace and screamed the words.

Wherever we were going was in the middle of nowhere. Literal wasteland. So, in the mood of where I was, I pulled out some Pierce the veil. As soon as we hit the drive I screamed the lyric to Hell Above, “This is a wasteland my only retreat,” Michael laughed and I turned off Oliver. “That was very fitting Louis.” We all walked to the door. Ashton knocked while I stood in the back with Mike. “So who’s place is this?” I ask. “Luke’s. We have to pick him up then meet up at Cal’s place.” I nodded. I was still mad at him for laughing but it’s not his fault. He had no clue what it was. Luke answered the door, guitar in hand. “Hey lads, where’s practice toda-“ He stopped when he saw me. “I’m so sorry Louis. I didn’t understand and I still shouldn’t have laughed and I’m so so so sorry!!!” he continued until I hugged him. “It cool man. Now come on. We have a long way to Cal Pal.” I say when we pulled apart. As we walk to the cars, Mike and Ash/ Me and Luke, I swore I saw something in Mikey’s eyes. I don’t know what. I brushed it off and set Luke’s guitar and amp in the back, carefully. Soon we were back on the road and my music was blaring Bullet for my Valentine.
