Grieving can be interpreted in multiple ways to different people. No two people mourn the loss of someone close to them the same way.
After the death of her brother, Annalise fled Riverdale. Her parents enrolled her in a private school in Maine where she remained all throughout the solving of her brother Jason's mysterious death. She never called; never sent a letter. Her sister Cheryl didn't even know where she was or if she was safe. She didn't want to be found. She preferred to mourn by herself in a school full of strangers who whispered behind her back. Did she regret leaving? Not a chance in hell.
She wasn't missed, not really. Her sister thought of her once in a while but never really missed her. Annalise kept to herself while Cheryl and Jason were inseparable. So being surrounded by strangers wasn't anything new to Anna, it felt like home.
She wasn't popular either. While her brother and sister ruled the school, Anna focused on her studies because she knew that was the only way she'd ever leave that town. She loved to read and spent most of her days in the library. She did make one friend freshman year, Ethel Muggs. They met over their obsession with books in the library and stuck together.
She thought of Ethel once or twice. Did she miss her? Did she think of her? Probably not, they were just lunch buddies and book buddies. They weren't really "friends" in the way she saw Betty Cooper and Archie Andrews were.
Maybe she did miss Riverdale. But did she want to go back? She didn't make any friends in this new school. Making friends wasn't easy for her. Maybe it was her lack of emotions. When she found out about her brothers death she felt a little bit sad but she didn't cry. Why didn't she cry? Could she not feel? Was she a monster? That's why she moved schools far from home. She felt that people would become suspicious if she did not look upset the way her sister Cheryl did.
It had been months since she left and she wondered if they found out what happened to her brother. Should she go home, should she return to Riverdale?
