In fair Verona, one night, Mercutio and Romeo were walking in the warm evening air. The marketplace was buzzing with the chatter of people, laughter ringing in the sultry night's air. It was summer, after all. Hand in hand, they walked together, chatting about things that couples chat about. Walking under the trees, a hostile voice rang out into the night, "Oh, it's you two... Verona's number one couple," It was Tybalt. It wasn't a secret, all of Verona knew, Tybalt loathed both Mercutio, and Romeo, but for whatever reason, he never cared to explain.
"Tybalt. Pleased to see you," Mercutio replied, his voice full of scorn.
"I can't say the same to you," Tybalt spat back at the pair.
Romeo shifted uncomfortably at his comment. Tybalt had always hated him and Mercutio, but lately, it was getting worse. It seemed as though he found any and all opportunities to bother them, especially when they were together. For some reason, he always attacked them together, and never separately.
Tybalt really hated his guts, Romeo thought. He always came at the worst time, too. It was always when they were out together, whether it be in the market or just outside the forest, Tybalt would never fail to be there.
Romeo was always uncomfortable around Tybalt, it was just something about him. Whatever it was, it unsettled him. He also seemed to have a great amount of disdain towards Mercutio, with just made Romeo more uncomfortable. But, could you blame him? How would you feel if someone hated not only you but the love of your life?
"What do you want?" Thankfully, Mercutio had broken the silence.
"Nothing much, I just wanted to take a nice walk in the marketplace, but I was interrupted by you two," Tybalt replied coldly.
"We'll be going then," Mercutio said quickly while grabbing my hand.
As Romeo was being pulled along, he looked back at Tybalt, but all he could see was the back of his head as he walked in the other direction. Romeo couldn't help but feel as though something was different about their last meeting with Tybalt.
