Chapter 1
Imagine being able to see any color. Any shade of red or orange or really any color. Except the shade of you soul mates eyes. Yeah that's right. I live in a world where you're blind to a certain color until you meet your soul mate. But i'm blind to two colors i guess. I always hear about these colors called blue and green. I've never seen them. Of course doctors don't know if I'm actually blind to one or if I have two possible soul mates. However I'm 21 years old and I've had noo luck. It's going to sound terrible but I've gone through so many people. Everyone gets their vision in different ways so no one knows if you have to talk to your soulmate or touch them, screw them, no idea. It's different for everyone.
So I started another depressing day lost in wonder about those unknown colors.
Blue and Green
"Hey Gabe!" I halted my walk and turned to see my friend Jameson. He looked oddly happy. He finally caught up with me and flipped his long brown hair out of his eyes.
"What's up?" I asked in the same monotone voice I always seem to hold. We continued walking since our first class was starting soon. I didn't really want to be late on my first day of junior year. Plus, I wanted to avoid all the freshman coming in.
"I found her! And I can see pink now! There's so many shades and its so beautiful. Her name is Grace and she absolutely gorgeous." I felt a sharp pain in my chest as he continued rambling through our walk to the science hall.
"So you found your soul mate I take it?" I asked in an obvious way.
"Yep! She's a freshman in the nursing courses. We still have time, do you maybe wanna grab breakfast and you can meet her?" Truthfully i had no interest in seeing another friend find their forever. I looked down at the sidewalk and noticed how the gray grass grew over it ever so slightly. Then at the sky and the light shade of gray it held.
"Yeah sure. But I really only want food." We turned away from the science hall and made our way across campas to the cafeteria. It was only slightly crowded. It looked like a mix of people getting food and lost freshman running around looking for someone who knew where they were going.
"There she is!" he pointes out a girl sitting in a group of 3 other girls. Grace had short brown hair and soft pink colored eyes. I wasn't too interested in the others as i looked them over. That is until I noticed the shorter, pale girl with incredibly long blonde hair. But her eyes were gray.
A beautiful face and I can't even see her eye color. Of course.
"Hey Jameson, over here!" The Grace chick waved us over. He held up a finger to say one second while we went over to get food. I just grabbed a breakfast burrito but he got his usual random mix of stuff. Then we took two open seats at the table of girls.
"So this is buddy I was telling you about. Gabriel this is Grace." I just gave a half hearted wave as she smiled at me and carried on introducing her friends. I only paid attention to the blonde though. Amelia.
"So is it true that you've got a really huge streak of sleeping with people just to find your soul mate?" This chick, so called soul mate to him, just randomly felt the need to blurt out. I cringed back.
"H-hey come on! I didn't think you'd actually ask." Jameson was waving his arms around trying to shush this chick.
"Yeah seriously you can't ask people that." The blonde stood, grabbing her things and packing them up.
"I'm sorry i wasn't even thinking. I just think it's funny because Amelia has dated a lot of people too trying for the same result." The nosey brunette was cut off incredibly quickly as Amelia completely launcged a book into her head.
That wasn't more than 2 feet apart and she just threw it into her head!
"Again, you should shut your mouth Grace." SHe had such a soft yet aggressive tone. It was kind of a turn on. Anyway, I took the opportunity to look at my phone. 11:25.
Shit! We've got 5 minutes to get to class.
"Hey you can worry about your whatever she is later. We have 5 minutes to get to class." I said standing up. I was turning to walk out and i accidentally ended up bumping into Amelia's right side. For a split second I saw a new color. Her eye and the chairs in the cafeteria were this new color. Soft and smooth looking. But the vision faded as soon as she was away from me.
"Dude let's go!" I shook it off calling to my friend attempting to help his unconcious soul mate. He finally gave up and walked with me. I figured I would ask him about the color.
"Hey I have a question." I said as we entered the science hall.
"Yeah what's up?"
"What color are the chairs in the cafeteria again?"
"They're blue. But i thought you couldn't see it."
"Well I couldn't...er...can't. But When I bumped into Amelia, I saw her eye color and the chairs for a split second." He was smiling like an idiot as we finally got to the class room door. BUt then his smile fell.
"Well shit, and just when I thought you found your soul mate. I would totally say it's her but Amelia has two different eye colors. Ya know, heterochromia."
"Wait what's the other one?!" I asked. I think i had more emotion in my voice than ever before. I had to know.
"It's green." He said as he opened the door and we walked in as the professor started class.
