A Leader Hidden Within

Prologue

"Run!" Is all I could hear over the barks and snarles. It was my packs beta.

She pushed me with his snout. I stumbled away, looking back at her. She had turned and was up against three others. I didn't recognize any of them.

I turned and ran as fast I could, which wasn't fast at all. I turn back to see if I was being chased. But when I looked forward again it was to late. I was facing a huge steep hill. I miss my step and tumble down, down, down. I whimper with each thud.

I land at the bottom, stomach up. I whined in pain, up until I hear a loud SNAP! I struggle to turn back onto my fluffy stomach. As soon as I do a huge shadow blocked the moons silver light from my view.

I shrink back, struggling to hold in a whimper. I look up at the huge figure in front of me. It was a huge male wolf, a pup poking out from behind him.

"I thought I told you to stay with the others?" The large wolf boomed through the now almost silent forest. "S-sorry alpha." The older looking pup says in response.

Alpha?! Is he part of the pack that is attacking mine? She thinks as she starts to panic.

She takes a few slow steps back. Her breathing clearly fastening.

The older pup was the first one to notice her. She looks down at her small paws as she steps. "Hey, where are you going? You don't seem ok." He says, slight concern laced in his voice.

She perks her ears and looks up hesitantly. "I-I'm fine!" She try's hard to not stutter or stumble through much of her words. She was taught that that shows fear, a weakness. She lifts her head up proudly and looks at the larger wolf.

"I demand to know who you two are, and why you are out here." She says, forcing the confidence into her voice.

Garridan, the alpha wolf, looks down and chuckles lightly at the small pup. "Who are you to 'demand' these thing? Especially when talking to an alpha?" He asks, showing her a small smile.

"I am Adine, daughter of the alphas from the pack of Thunder Stones." She says proudly, sending a confident smirk.

Bone, the other but older pup, tilts his head. "An alphas daughter? Then what are you doing out here?"

"Bone, please. Now, Adine, it is a pleasure to meet you. But yes, why are you out here alone?" Garridan says, until a sudden bark.

Garridan and Bone move their heads, facing the direction of the sudden burst of sound. Adine lowers her head and puts her paws over her small pointy ears, flattening them against her head. She shakes lightly and squeezed her eyes shut.

A huge and powerful wolf can be seen at the top of the hill. The moon made his coat sparkle. He looked down with an angry and searching gaze.

Bone goes and sits in front of me, blocking me from his view. He looks up at the wolf and then at his alpha.

"Creole? What are doing in this part of the forest?" Garridan asks in confusion. Then the realization hit him hard. An alphas daughter all alone, running from her pack. Then another packs alpha following behind? Ya, obviously the Thunder Stones were attacked, and by the Shattered Ties. He thought to himself staring up at top of the hill, towards the other alpha.

Creole, the leader of Shattered Ties, chuckles deeply. It sends shivers down my spine. "Oh, just looking at some future land. I must have took a wrong turn... anyway I'll see you soon!~" He says in an almost mocking tone. He chuckles as he walks off in search for something.

Bone turns towards me, me peaking up at him through my paws. I start inching backwards, still close to the cold earth. Then I felt a pull on my coat. Bone picked me up by my scruff and he sets me on my paws. He sends me a shy smile.

Garridan looks back at us. "Come on you two. We are heading back to the pack." He angrily says through gritted teeth. I could tell he wasn't mad at us, but that other wolf, what was his name? Oh ya, Creole!

I think he's the one who ki-

"Come on Adine." Bone says patiently. "C-coming." I say, following close behind.

I take one last pause to look back up at the steep hill I had fell down. Why am I even following them? Why do I... trust them..? I thought as I continued on.
