The morning that my ten page essay was due, it was snowing cats and dogs and my brother, my mom and I sat by our dirt brown dinner table each eating a miserable looking bowl of blueberry oatmeal.

"It must be negative one million degrees outside!" My eight year old brother, Kian complained. "It should be a snow day."

My mom sighed. "Just try your best not to catch a cold."

Ten minutes later, my brother and I were nudged into the torturous coldness of winter, dressed in multiple thick layers.

"Come on, Sophie!" Kian urged.

"Can't you just wait a minute?!" I asked, frustrated as I rummaged through my backpack to make sure that I had brought my prized essay.

But then, a powerful gust of wind collided with my face.

"Woah!" I cried as I wobbled on my numb feet. My CCM backpack slipped from my double gloved hands and landed deep in the thick snow.

"Ugh, it'll be faster if I just pick it up." Kian bent down to pick up my backpack. I watched him as he searched every inch of the snow like he was trying to find a needle in a haystack. After a while, I noticed that my brother was chest deep in the snow, and somehow, like an optical illusion, he was being slowing swallowed up by the thick whiteness.

"Kian! Are you in quicksnow or something?!" I yelled, laughing hysterically, thinking this was a joke.

"Huh? - " Kian started. But just then, but brother disappeared completely.

"AK!" I screamed, totally freaking out. And being stupid Sophie, I dove on the snow right in the spot where my brother had vanished.

The next few seconds felt like I was hallucinating. Everything around me was a black hole, and I was travelling to light speed, falling a million feet. And that was when I fell unconscious.
