Hello, my name is Eloise "Ellie" Austen. I am 10 years old. With a month and 9 days left to be exact. I like to be exact with numbers, especially when it comes to my birthday. Some people think of me as shy. Well, everyone thinks I'm shy. But if you tried to talk to me for more than just a school project. You would know the real me. I don't open up easily. Just as my adoptive parents, Mr. and Mrs. Austen. It took about 2 months to open up to them. I don't easily trust people. Yes, you can say I have trust issues. I do. But what kid wouldn't have trust issues after spending 5 years in an orphanage. Now, I think I should tell you about my past. I was sent to an orphanage the night my parents died, Halloween of 1981. Yeah, I know they died Halloween night, "Scary" How they die that fateful Halloween night you ask? Let me guess, you are thinking it was some gruesome murder. No, it was a car crash. My parents were driving home from a friends house with me in the backseat. When some drunk dude walked in front of the car and fell in the road. My dad, who was driving at the time, tried swerve out of the way. But ended up driving into a light pole. Well, at least that was the story I was always told. I was told that that's how I ended up with a lightning shaped scar on the right side on my neck. While I lived at the orphanage I was bullied. Mostly because of my backstory, I was short for my age, scrawny, and super smart. I was known as the smart kid because I understood anything the teacher said. School was easy for me. My teachers always thought I should been in a school for gifted kids, But since I had no actual guarding I never got switched. After those 5 years of torture a really nice couple came into the orphanage. They looked around and met with many of the kids. I stayed in the back ground most of the time. I was a very timid child because for the bullying I had to deal with. I was surprised when the Austen's choose to adopt me. Before they choose me I spent my time in the orphanage wondering if a couple would love me again. My wish finally came true. I thought my luck was gonna turn around. But boy was I wrong. It took about a week for me to move in. I knew the adoption wasn't final but I was happy enough to know that I'm in a house with people who want to take care of me. But it did still take me a while to be able to tell them everything. I went to school that was only blocks from where we lived. That's where the school for gifted children was brought up again. Mrs. Austen always said to the teachers, "She needs to live like a normal child, not around people who don't know how to have fun." I know she's not the one who gave birth to me or was at the orphanage when I was bullied but I love her like she's like my real mother. She has been there for me since I moved in and she promises to stay in my life for the future. So instead of me switching schools I just moved up a few grades so I could be academically challenged. But moving up some grades just made the bullying worse. It was only my first year at this school and I was the most bullied person. For the most part it was the same person, Dudley Dursley. Everyday after school since 4th grade, when I was able to walk myself hom, I was chased home. That's when I found out Dudley lived only 3 houses down. Can my luck get any worse? He bullied me for all the same reasons I was bullied for at the orphanage. Well, except a new one too. My style. It's new because at the orphanage we weren't able to choose our outfits. Okay, I admit I have a weird sense of fashion. But I like my style. As I grew up the bullying and my style didn't change. But enough about my past. As of right now in my life I have only a month and 9 days till my 11 birthday. I can't wait till  I have a feeling this birthday is going to change my life. But just starting the other day my parents are acting weird. Like they know somethings gonna happen and they can't stop it. Which didn't help the feeling about my birthday. I'd ask them what's going on but the just say "You'll find out soon" and put on a noticeably fake smile. It's starting to scare me. Usually they tell me everything. They are hiding something I just know it and by the way they ate acting it's pretty big. I don't think I am as ready for my birthday as much as I thought.
