It was early in the morning when we were traveling. Water dew sat on the tips of the long grass beneath my paws. Sunlight casted a beautiful glow around the mountains ahead, giving them a dark silhouette look. Trees danced and swayed on the wind, a crisp smell in the air. My leader followed behind us, protecting us as we move. We were traveling through a field, hoping to find a new area large enough for us to live in.
My tongue lolled out of my mouth, flying to the side from the force of the wind rushing past my sides. Many paws smacking the ground in trot. I look over and pant a smile at my mate, Nyxton. He was my everything, the reason why I'm alive. Staring into his bright blue eyes, they smile back at me. He closed the gap between us to brush his nose into my neck. He never leaves my side, he protects me with his life. I truly, deeply love him.
Summer
We lay beside each other in the shadows of the trees in the forest. A beautiful array of colors painted the world. Dried up, old leaves gracefully floated to the ground beside us. I felt a large tongue swipe across my face. Looking over at my mate, he snorted a laugh. He laid on his back with his white paws in the air. His fur was covered in dust. I stood up and licked his face all over.
"I love you I love you!" I knew him my whole life. He was the one who actually saved my life. He saved me from my loneliness when I was abandoned as a puppy. He rescued me when a hunter tried to kill me. He risked his life without thinking twice, by tackling the monstrous man, long enough for me to escape. Thanks to him, I'm alive, and I'm not alone anymore. I've loved him ever since the day I laid my eyes on him. He's my mate for life.
Fall
I flicked my right ear back as a warm breath trails my neck. Looking back, I meet eyes with him. We both pant a smile as we stare into each others eyes. Sunlight reflected off his blue eyes, revealing the love they radiated. I nuzzle his face with my nose and curl up to him. His brown pelt shimmered in the light as we glanced outside of our den. Our pack scattered everywhere below us, playing and dashing through the forest. Looking into Nyxton's eyes once more, I tilt my head back in a howl. He joined me in howling to alert our pack a very special event. We needed to tell them that we were having pups soon. They all look up at us, and smiled brightly. The pack all chorused in howl, creating this beautiful moment with us. I can't wait to start my life with my soulmate. I've never been this happy...
Winter
Paw prints trailed behind us as we walk side by side. The cold droplets of snow tickle my face as they gracefully fall to the earth. I prowl forwards with my face buried in his neck. His warm, thick fur melting the snow that rested on my nose. The world covered in a blanket of white. It was beautiful.
Nyxton stops abruptly. I lift my head and twitch my ears in his direction.
"What's the matter?" He places a paw forwards and squares his body. Then I hear it. My mate drops his head, and lifts his gums in a snarl. Flicking my tongue, fear crawls throughout my body as I catch a glimpse of the figure in the snow. A tall man was approaching us from a distance. My heart races. As he lifts his hands, a large weapon comes to view, and points directly at me. I hear a click sound as he moves part of the gun- I recognize this sound, the same sound that I heard as a baby... he was about to shoot.
As my paws glue to the ground in terror, Nyxton bounds forwards. Loud barks of rage escaped his clamping jaws as he pounced at the man. Just as he shot, Nyxton pushed him over. Causing the bullet to ricochet off of a tree behind me, making a loud pinging sound. I duck my head as my tail ticks between my legs. I whine uncontrollably as Nyxton wrestles with the armed human.
"No.." The man steps backwards, avoiding his large jaws snapping at his face. Pushing my mate back, Nyxton gets up to attack again, but wasn't expecting the sudden foot in his face. The man kicked him in the jaw so powerful that he flew back into the snow. A loud thud sounds as his body abruptly hammers the ground. A loud cry of pain escaped his jaws.
"No!!" My heart stops as I watch as the man points his giant gun at Nyxton's head.
"Noooo!!!!" I scream blue murder, infuriated as I bolted forwards faster than ever. My vision blurs as red surrounds my sight. A whole new feeling overwhelms my body... I bare my teeth, growling in rage as I throw myself in front of my mate's body. My life flashes before my eyes...
A shot was fired. All I hear next is Nyxton howling in despair. He leaps up and catches me as I stagger forwards. Red stains the once pure white snow.
"Esmer no!!!" My mate crying uncontrollably. I stare into his broken-hearted, beautiful eyes one last time. You saved my life, so I'm repaying you back and saving yours. Everything blacks out as I fall to the ground.
I love you, Nyxton...
