Chapter 2

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even though I didn't have many friends, I was content with having one of the best: Spencer Robins.
I've known him since elementary school. We were different. Like really different. He was a jock and I was... me. But I guess that's the main reason why we got along so well; because we lacked what the other one had.
Thankfully, he wasn't one of those jerks of a jock. He can have his dick moments but he means well. Spencer was a really funny guy. Like, stupid funny. Hence what I said about 'lacking what the other one had'.
I had the brains and he had the ladies.
Yes, he was aware of my feelings for Anastasia. I had to tell somebody. I couldn't keep it to myself for all these years. Who better to talk to than your best friend?
This was the first year we could finally afford our own apartment. We got sick of sharing dorms with other guys that got on our nerves so we saved up enough money over the summer that got us the apartment for the rest of the school year.
"Great place for a party, huh?" Spencer said as he dropped the last box in the middle of our living room.
I shrugged. "Eh."
Spencer chuckled and laid a hand on my shoulder. "Come on, man! This is our last year in college. Next year, we have to get serious jobs and start our lives. Live a little!"
He was right. If I didn't toughen up soon, my social life will be going nowhere.
I moved his weights to his room one at a time. When I got to the 150lbs barbell, I easily carried that and placed it above the bench.
When I turned to leave his room, he was standing in the door way with his mouth wide open as he gaped at me.
"What?" I asked awkwardly. Did I put his weights on a different spot? He treats those things like they were his baby.
"You just carried 150 pounds with one hand!" he exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air for dramatic effect.
"Is that bad?"
"No, dude. That's great!" he said. He walked over and started squeezing my biceps. I swatted him away. "Have you been working out or something?"
"Uh..." I blushed.
The truth was: yeah, I have been working out. This summer had really pumped me up for seeing Anastasia Kerr again that I had to throw my energy somewhere. What better place to be energetic than the gym?
I even started running around the beach with no shirt to get some sun to color my skin so I wasn't so pale.
No more white, scrawny little Ethan. I was just the right kind of muscular now, if I do say so myself.
"Working out for Ana?" Spencer said knowingly.
I sighed. He got me there. "Yeah. Thought it'd get her attention, you know?"
He slapped my back. "Beauty gets the attention but personality makes them stay."
I looked at him curiously. "When did you get so deep?"
"You're not the only one who changed this summer!"
We spent the rest of the day unpacking and moving furniture. By 9 in the evening, we were settled in our new home for the next 9 months.
"Do you have class tomorrow?" Spencer asked.
"It's Sunday." I said as if that answered his question.
