Y/N POV
• 30th of October •
The bell above the door trilled yet again and I groaned, pausing in my current stretched out position to listen to what kind of customers they were.
The bell had been in almost constant song throughout the day due to people being unorganised and leaving their costumes to the day before Halloween. It bewildered me how people could leave something that requires so much attention to detail and so much thought to the last minute. I had gotten my costume organised at the very start of the month so I could avoid the exact stress I was dealing with secondhand today.
My brother and I always treated Halloween with as much importance as Christmas and we always had slightly linked costumes. This year I was going as Captain America and he was going as the Black Widow. Despite both of us sharing the same love and enthusiasm for Halloween, my brother didn't share the same ideas of being organised and on time, hence he was currently running around the city looking for the different pieces for his costume and I was stuck covering his shift in the small, but widely known, costume shop that he worked part time at.
At the top of the ladder where I was perched, trying to organise broomsticks so they would all stay on the shelf where they belonged, I listened out to the customers who had recently entered. They were hidden from sight by multiple aisles in between us but judging by the sounds it was a mother with 2? maybe 3? children, who were all screeching with joy at the excellent displays that had just been organised by me. I chewed my lip, begging them silently to not knock over anything while the obviously exhausted mother tried to reign them in.
I sighed and unwillingly climbd down the rungs to the ground, prepping myself with my customer service smile and happy attitude. I turned the corner to see the mother browsing our custume idea board as the kids - triplets I could see now- fought with foam swords. I wiped my dusty hands on the back of my pants and smiled warmly as I approached the young mother.
"Hi! Im Y/N, is there anything I can help you with?" I asked cheerily.
The mother jumped slightly as if I'd appeared out of thin air, before she smiled at me tiredly. The poor thing looked like she'd gotten zero sleep. My gaze moved to the rowdy three and I realised that she probably hadn't.
"Oh, hello. Sorry, I know I must seem ridiculous looking for three costumes the day before halloween but the three of them decided that they didnt like the 'paper, scissors, rock' costumes I made them. So here I am. Think you could help a mother out?" She sighed as she smiled, running a hand through her already slightly greying hair.
I chuckled and smiled at her kindly.
"Well, for the record you're more organised than half the people that have come in today and I for one love the idea of triplets going as paper, scissors, rock. But no need to worry, I have an expertise in costumes - my brother and I wore corresponding costumes every year growing up and we still do - so you're in safe hands. How old are these wee guys?" I switched on the charm, laughing along with her.
