Prologue

(This story is set one year after the events of Cell Mates 1)

~John’s POV~

My eyes snapped open at the sound of rustling clothes, and I glanced around the room with a frown.

“What are you doing?” I grumbled when I spotted Kyle across the room, pulling on his shoes.

He glanced up at me briefly, then back to his laces. “Dad wants me to help him move some boxes in the morning so I figured I’d go over there tonight so I won’t be late.” He explained, and I turned away from him and glanced at the clock on the bedside table.

“It’s midnight, come back to bed.” I called, but he only shook his head.

“No, if I do, you’ll make me late again and dad’s already pissed at me from the last time.” He continued with a frown, looking around for his car keys, which he picked up from the ground when he managed to spot them in the dark room.

With a groan, I shoved the covers away and got out of bed, following him out of the room and down the hall.

“I’ll be back tomorrow evening.” He assured me, then expertly sidestepped my reaching hands when I went to pull him to me.

“Behave Johnny, I gotta go.” He scolded, and when we reached the living room, he picked up the envelopes which had been laying on the coffee table, and waved them in my face.

“Remember to get these out to the guys, we need to give them enough notice so they’ll come.” He said, and with a yawn, I nodded.

“I think you made a mistake on one of them…You gave Simon and Eddie the cabin with the single bed.” I explained, and when he grinned up at me, understanding dawned.

“Kyle, you can’t keep messing with them like this, they’re grown men, capable of making their own decisions, and like I said...Eddie’s as straight as they come...I’ve known the guy all my life.” I tried to convince him, but his grin only widened.

“You don’t see what I see Johnny. They’re into each other, they just need a push in the right direction, and I think a nice relaxing cruise with all of us will help.” He continued mischievously, and I only shook my head when he handed the envelopes to me.

“This is going to blow up in your face.” I told him, taking them from him, and he stood on his tip toes, giving me a quick kiss before he turned for the door.

“Oh, I already gave Riley his. He said he’ll try to convince Nate when Nate picks him up from campus next weekend, so just give those to the others tomorrow, and don’t leave until they say yes, okay?”

“Drive safe.” I said instead of assenting, and he offered me another smile.

“I’ll see you tomorrow.”

When the door closed behind him, I dropped the envelopes onto the coffee table, and made my way back up to my room and between the sheets.

All this matchmaking is going to get him nowhere. I thought, just before I drifted to sleep, with only the sound of the ceiling fan to take with me.
