Chapter I

"PING PING PING PING"
I hear my alarm blaring in my ear.
"No, I don't want to wake up!"
I squash my pillow in my face and try to ignore my alarm. Eventually, I hear my grandma calling me.
"Lexi! Time to get up! I made breakfast!"
I groan and start to get up. I am out and dressed 15 minutes later.
"Finally, I thought you died in there or something." My grandma teasingly tells me. "Eat fast! You don't want to be late for your first day of school!"
"Why do I have to go back? Can't I just stay home and sleep for once?"
I say. I absolutely hate mornings. They are definitely my least favorite part of the day. "Nope! Now, go brush your teeth and do something with your hair! When was the last time you showered?"
My grandma always fusses over me like this, it can get REALLY annoying.
"Maybe the last time we had running water that didn't look green? Seriously, let me quit school and get a job, I am old enough to." Second least favorite part of the day, school.
I don't see the point. I have done the research, people have worked up from the bottom to the top and were high school dropouts. I mean I would be eligible for 90% of jobs still. Yes, I have researched that. Got to make a good argument to quit high school so you have to do your research!
I get in the AI car that picks me up and say, "Take me to Landmark High School"
These cars are programmed to your voice and only don't follow directions given to them by criminals. I was running late, so I grab my handy screwdriver and open the control hatch. I then mess with the wires until I have the AI going above the speed limit without it noticing. Lets just say, I am pretty good with machines. My grandma always told me to be street smart and book smart.
I finally arrive with 5 minutes to spare. I leave and tell the AI to pick me up in 8 hours. I walk into the school or what I prefer, My prison for the next 10 months.
