Eacli laid his head in his hands as thoughts filled his mind. Tears fell to the floor as his sanity slowly shattered at the seams. He knew he could never get what he wanted from his best friend since childhood, Esi. It has been about three years since Eacli worked part time at a manufacturing plant while Esi went to the local community college. Life became hard on the guys as their love and happiness together started to drift.
Eacli puts on music to hide his sobs, hoping Esi wouldn't hear. He started thinking of his past with Esi and how close they have been throughout the years. After high school, a lack of popularity, and the idea of crushes and romance hit Eacli like a truck. Esi, on the other hand, became a 'player,' stealing the hearts of many others when he went on through college, never truly finding the right person. Eacli watched as an outcast, jealous of the joy of being in a relationship like Esi could bring. It was at this thought, Eacli realized what he was missing his whole life.
Him.
Esi was oblivious to the efforts that Eacli made towards him. Bouquets of flowers, boxes of candies, individual letters, and all the stereotypical gifts were passed off without hesitation by Esi, thinking they were from random people who liked him. Eacli couldn't take the constant oblivious rejection and decided that he needed to say something. That's when the day finally arrived. It was Saturday, both men were free from work and were sitting on the couch, watching some television shows. Thoughts of what he should say flooded Eacli's head. Eacli spoke up and offered to go outside and relax on the porch. Esi accepted and both men headed off to the back porch, into the quiet afternoon.
The two relaxed on the porch in silence for a good while. Esi was enjoying the scenery and weather. Eacli watched his best friend with a noticeable smile across his face. Esi takes notice and questions why Eacli is so smiley. "You were always do infatuated by nature since we were little," Eacli said, reminiscing. "It's beautiful and mesmerizing," Esi replied as joy filled his eyes. The two men spent some time reminiscing their past together, sipping on cold sodas and enjoying the sunset.
Night fell upon the two as they laughed about their past. Memories of adventuring through forests, playing games, and being there for each other brought the friendship closer together. Eacli couldn't find the nerves to say how he felt until Esi noticed his discomfort. Eacli's thoughts and emotions collided in a violent outburst of words, "I can't stand it anymore. You always have been happy and friendly to me and everyone. Everyone loves you and you always have a new relationship every week. You never look at who you break the heart of. I hate seeing you do this cause you never find someone for yourself that makes you happy. It just makes me mad that you can't just look right in front of you and see that the one person you've been looking for is me!" Eacli bursted out with emotion.
Silence fell upon the two. The tension in the air was as thick as pea soup. Esi was in shock, learning that his best friend since childhood loved him through all the lovers he had over years. Esi started to tear up. "How could I have been so blind. I should have known all these years. No one I've been with would have done anything you have done for me. I should have paid attention." Esi broke into a sobbing mess.
Eacli walked over and put his arm around Esi. "I'm sorry, I never should have snapped or kept it secret from you." He placed his hand on Esi's cheek and looked him in the eyes. "It's my fault. I never said anything and I should have," Eacli said with a calming tone to his voice. "Well, now you know, maybe you can open your eyes and consider my confession," Eacli stated with regret in his voice as he walked into the house. Esi was left on the porch to think over the scene that occurred before him.
It was a quarter past midnight. Eacli was in his room, awake with his face buried in his pillow. Esi walks in and sits next to him on the bed. "I thought it over... I love you the same way. I have been trying to find the right person to fill the hole in my heart. Turns out, it was you." Eacli sat up, the look on his face shows he was crying. Eacli spoke softly, "I have always loved you." Eacli leaned over and wrapped his arms around Esi. Esi returned the hug and said, "From now on, I'm yours and only yours." Eacli tightened the hug, looked up and stared into Esi's eyes. "I'm yours." The two men, staring into each other's eyes, leaning into a kiss that felt like it lasted a lifetime. Eacli was finally happy. He finally got what he wanted. Him.
