It was the second of February, 2016 when Damien Frost dropped out of college to explore the world. He traveled from the United states, to France, to Egypt. Anywhere you could think of Damien had thought about going there or had already gone there. He traveled for a year and a half till he began feeling pains in his chest. He thought maybe it was just chest pains after all he had traveled to places where the air wasn't the cleanest. He decided to take a little break from traveling, so he bought a tiny apartment in Manhattan to settle down for a month or two, but the chest pains got worse. Day by day the pains got stronger and stronger. Damien felt like he had been beaten down so he decided to go to the hospital to see if everything was alright. After many test and x-rays the doctors came back with sad expressions on their faces as they gave Damien the news that he was diagnosed with lung cancer. As soon as Damien left the hospital he called his mother and father to tell them the news, he then called his sister, then his aunt, and soon after the phone calls the news spread like a wildfire through his family. You may think Damien went home before doing this but he didn't, every phone call was made sitting in his 2002 red Honda Insight. Even after the phone calls Damien still didn't go home he just sat in the hospital parking lot for twenty minutes, crying and thinking about how his life would be like now that he had received this news.
"I could never find love now that I'm counting down the days till death arrives at my door," Damien said to himself as tears rolled down his face.
Damien had always planned on getting married one day but now he knew that it was just a fantasy. Perhaps this was gods way of telling him to get his head out of the clouds and stop traveling. Damien was never very religious, not religious at all really but that moment had led him to prey.
"Dear God," He said with his hands folded looking up at the sky through his windshield, his eyes closed yet still releasing tears.
"Please let me get through this, Please don't make my family go through this pain they don't deserve it... but I do." He paused for a second, his eyes red and puffy as a single tear went down his cheek.
"Its my fault that I don't visit them enough."He said as tears began to go down his face. "It's my fault that i'm never there for the holidays." He said, his voice getting louder slowly. "I'm the one who chose this path not them!" He yelled as tears flowed down his face.
"I should've never dropped out, I was lucky to get a scholar ship and I completely threw it away, so many people I went to high school with begged for scholar ships... yet out of all of them I got it, and not only did I get it... But I wasted it." He said beginning with anger but ending in sadness.
