The world was surrounded by a clear barrier. I say the world because, well its the only slice we were ever given. To be fair it is a good amount of space, personally, I've never seen the other the side but humanity will always want more. People fought against this, tried to break the mostly invisible wall, but to no avail as a species we gave up.
Was it nature that did this and we didn't quite understand it? Maybe we were prisoners and we were being punished for a crime we didn't remember committing. I don't know about the second because as a girl who lives close to one of the walls, if you look at the other side on a breezy day. The grass is absolutely unmoving.
