It was the night of Will and his lovely friend's game of Dungeons and Dragons. The night was cold, too cold, after-all it was November, which was when Fall transitioned into is freezing counterpart; Winter. The house you were hanging out in was Mike Wheeler's, it was still chilly inside, despite the heat being on. So, you were curled up in a fluffy, black, faux fur blanket, right next to your older brother, Will Byers. You shivered every so often and he would turn to you, hoping that you weren't too cold.
Back on the topic of the campaign the boys' were playing, the game was getting heated, ironically, and it was Will's turn to roll the polyhedral dice. You hadn't really been paying attention until they were SCREAMING at your brother to either, "cast protection" or, " Fireball the monster". The monster was the demogorgon, a powerful being with two heads. Each head was out to kill the opposing head. They hated each other, despite the fact that if they killed one, they killed both. You knew about this monster because you stole one of Will's books on Dungeons and Dragons monsters last week.
Eventually you heard Will yell, "Fireball!" As he threw the dice and it was quickly lost on the basement floor. Mrs. Wheeler opened the door to the underground room and shouted from upstairs that it was after Mike's bedtime and called us upstairs.
"Mom! The campaign took two weeks to plan! How was I supposed to know it was gunna take 10 hours..." Mike explained .
"You've been playing for 10 hours?!" Mrs. Wheeler asked. Mike pursed his lips and walked to his Dad, trying to get him on his side.
"I think you should listen to your mother." He insisted, messing with the antennae of his television.
"Mike, it's okay, you can finish next week." You smiled, patting his shoulder. He looked at you and nodded. You could hear Lucas and Will talking downstairs, you assumed it was about the missing multi-sided-dice. Will eventually got up the stairs, along with the noodle-head known as Dustin, and the sarcastic and doubtful Lucas. You all walked into Mike's garage. They were arguing about Nancy being a stuck up brat. Eventually, Lucas and Dustin rode off on their bikes while you and Will stayed with Mike.
"It got me." Will said, looking up at Mike.
"What?" He replied.
"The Demogorgon. It got me." He said again, looking over to you.
"Hey! Y/n?" Nancy called after you from the house. "I need you!" You looked over at Will.
"I'll be home tonight or tomorrow, bye Will!" You said, rushing into the Wheelers' home. Will smiled and rode home.
Little did you know, that smile would be the last thing you would see from him for a long, long week.
