Brian's family is on their first family vacation in 5 years. Little did they know, that it would be their last.
Brian is in the back seat of his mom's van on their way to Canada for a skiing trip with his mom, dad, and his little sister molly. His mom and dad are listening to the radio but he can't hear what song it is because the speakers are broken in the back. The only thing he can hear is the music coming from Molly's headphones. He knows that it's going to be a long trip.
When Brian and his family finally its get to Canada, they head straight to their hotel because it is already past midnight. When Brian and Molly walk the room that they will be sharing, they don't even mind getting dressed into their pajamas. The moment Brian's head touches the pillow, he falls asleep.
Brain wakes up to an alarm clearly set by his mom. Him and Molly roll out of bed and unwillingly get dressed. They walk to their parents' room where their breakfast is. Their breakfast is soggy cereal (because they took too long getting dressed), cold bacon, and orange juice. When the family is all ready with their skiing gear, they set off in their car to the hills were they will be skiing.
When they get to the hills, they get the stuff out of the car and start up the hill. Molly was the first one up the hill. Followed by Brian's dad, mom, and then Brian (who is still extremely tired). Molly was the first one down since she was the first one up. Then Brian's dad, and mom. Just before Brian set off down the hill, he heard a noise in the woods behind him. He turned around very slowly and just stared at the trees. 'This is it, I'm gonna die' Brian thought to himself.
CRACK!
Being the stupid human being he was, Brian walked into the woods.
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
The noise started getting louder. Brian turned in circles, trying to see who was there. As he was turning, he saw a blood trail. Any normal human being would turn around immediately and walk the other way. But Brian, he followed it.
He walked for about 15 minutes before the trail stopped. He looked up slightly and gasped at what he saw.
Laying on the ground was a deer with multiple lacerations and bite marks. The only thing was, the bite marks weren't animal bite marks. The bite marks looked like human teeth marks. And there were multiple cuts that looked like fingernail slashes.
Brian looked around and got even more confused. He expected to see human footprints or boot prints leading away from the carcass. But what he saw were deer prints.
Intrigued, Brian followed the tracks. They lead him to an open field.
"T-they just stop. Where did they go? It couldn't just have just disappeared! So, where the hell did it go?!" Brian yelled as he looked around, trying to see if the tracks started back up anywhere else.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here? Fresh meat?" A low, raspy voice. Almost like a growl. Brian started to look around again and saw no one.
"Where are you? Show yourself!" Brian said as he looked around again. He hoped he sounded strong and brave. But in his head, he sounded weak and pathetic.
"There's no one to look at my dear Brian. Unless, of course, you want to see me." The thing said again. Brian could practically hear the smirk on its face.
"Yes, of course I wanna see you!" Brian yelled again, even louder. He had traveled far into the woods. Way to far for his family to hear him.
"Brian. I think you should go back to your family. I think they are missing you by now." The thing said to Brian.
Reluctantly, Brian started to walk back to where his family was. He wasn't sure how he knew the way back. But, it just sort of came to him.
When he finally made it out of the woods. He noticed that it was almost dark, and no one was skiing anymore. He started to walk down the same path his family took when they first came here. There had to be at least 40 different paths. He still wasn't sure how he knew the way back, but he just did. He made it back to the parking lot and saw his family's car and walked over to it. He got it and all of his family looked at him, worried.
"Where have you been Brian?! We were worried sick about you all damn day!" His dad said from the front seat, looking at him sternly threw the rearview mirror.
"I was skiing on the other side of the hill. Nobody was over there, and it was easier for me to ski there. I'm sorry about worrying you guys." Brian said to his family while looking down at his lap, messing with his fingers.
Sighs erupted throughout the car, but finally, Brian's dad said, "I get it. You've always been a shy kid. And since you are new to skiing, you're off the hook this time kiddo. But next time, you better tell us where you're going to. Okay buddy?" Brian's dad said.
"Okay dad." Brian said with a slight smile.
Brian's family drove back to the hotel they were staying at. Brian's dad called room service for dinner. As they were waiting for their food, Brian and his sister were watching a newer movie called "Love, Simon." The food got to their room just as Martin threw up on Simon at the Halloween party.
They all ate their food in silence because they were all exhausted. As soon as the food was finished, they all went to bed. Brian was asleep before anyone else. The darkness just overcame him, instantly ingulfing him in its arm, and he accepted it.
"Mom? Dad? Molly? Hello, anyone?" I say as I walk around the hotel, trying to find my family. I woke up because I heard screams, but I can't find any of them.
I walk into the front room of the hotel room and almost screamed at what I saw. My mother, father, and Molly were all hanging from the ceiling, gutted, and had giant bite marks and fingernail scratches along there body. I look below them and see a beast. His head looks like a mix of an animal and human skull, No flesh, no muscle. Just a skull. His body is like a human chest, just with a little bit of fur in spots. His legs. His legs are like the hind legs of a deer. Deer legs.
Oh. My. Gods.
"Y-you're it. You're the beast. The beast I was talking to in the woods!" I say to the beast as it takes a few steps towards me.
"Oh Brian, I wasn't talking to anyone in the woods. I was inside your head then..." It says as it leans into me, pressing his bony cheek against my fleshy one. His mouth right next to my ear.
"And I still am" It whispers in my ear, saying it very menacing.
Brian bolts upright, sweating, panting, and tears rolling down his cheeks. He looks at the alarm clock that's next to his bed.
"How the hell is it already 12:00pm?" Brian says to himself as he gets out of bed. He walks to his door, opens it, and almost drops dead at the sight in front of him. His family is hanging from the ceiling, gutted, and has giant bite marks and fingernail scratches along their bodies.
He sees a note on the counter. He slowly walks over to it, picks it up, and reads it.
'Might wanna look in the mirror if I were you, Brian'
- 'It'
Brian quickly walks to the bathroom and looks in the mirror. He screams and drops to the floor. He turned into one. He turned to the thing he calls an 'It'.
"What you call an 'It' is called a Wendigo, Brian. Come to the woods were I first started 'talking' to you. You'll join the pack."
Brian slowly gets back up, walks to the front door and puts his hand on the knob. He looks behind him one last time. He looks at his family one last time.
"I'm sorry" he whispers before opening the door and running down the road, up the hill, and back through the woods.
After that, no one ever saw Brian again.
But what most people don't know, Brian saw everyone.
