Baby sleeps
After the journey
Through the tunnel
To the day

Mother smiles,
Welcome my baby
Sleep well,
'Twas a job well played.

Toddler slumbers
After the first steps
Of ungainly
Lumber

Mother smiles
Well done my baby
Sleep well
'Twas a job well played

First grader arrives
Just Home from school
First day
Away all day

Mother smiles
I missed you my baby
Sleep well
'Twas a job well played

Athlete exhausted
Just finished
his marathon
Now he must rest

Mother asks
Can this be my baby?
So tall and strong?
Rest now my lad
'Twas a job well played

Lover sighs
Holds his darling close
Wedding vows just made
Union now cemented
In bonds of love

Mother cries
Tears of joy
Is this my boy? And now my girl?
Rest now my darlings
'Twas a job well played

Mother's steps falter
Her gait not as strong
She lies down weary
Her time of spring
Long gone.

Young couple sighs
There she lies
Body so tired
Rest now, Dear mother
'Twas a job well played
