Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
The only thing everyone in the entire class did was stare at the clock. The school was almost over for the summer, and even the faculty wanted a break from school.
Red was one of them. He was sitting at his desk and, like the others, looked like he would do anything to leave. Red, despite his name, wasn't a redhead. In fact, he was blonde. His shirt was the one that was red, which said, "Wake me when school's over" on it. He had black shorts with matching sneakers, which were tapping on the floor repeatedly because he was so impatient.
"Now for your summer homework, you will either be doing 20 skills on IXL with a smart score of at least 70 or-" this was the point where all of the students could hear nothing but blahs from the teacher. Instead of listening, the class whispered to each other about summer, tensed even more, or threw crinkled pieces of paper at the others. Red stayed quiet.
Until the bell finally rang.
Everyone screamed and ran into the halls as if what was happening was horrifying. Papers flew everywhere, teachers were interrupted during summer work lectures, and the school felt free.
This was it. Turcott Junior high was done for the year.
Even Red, who was going to high school the following year, ran out with the stampede of middle scholars, backpack and all.
There was an entire cluster of students outside, waiting for the buses and chanting "Summer!" over and over. However, everyone dashed onto the bus and some of the students crashed into each other, causing "traffic" among the entrances. Soon, the buses left, the walkers biked home, and the carpools sent their groups home.
However, the buses didn't exactly get to their destinations yet. they were still driving. this gave the bus students enough time to play "Slug Bug" and use their phones. For Red, he used his time to answer some missed calls from his brother.
"Hey, Cory. sorry, I missed those calls earlier," he said.
"Oh, right, about that, Dad asked why I tried calling you 10 times, but I didn't..."
"Wait, I thought you- did Dad hack your phone? Again?"
"No... I checked the cameras and some random cop came in and called."
"tell D-"
"I did. He's still trying to get that cop fired for breaking and entering."
"Did the cameras manage to get who the cop was?"
"Yeah, but the police say that there is no 'officer Troy Brown'," Cory paused. "Got an update: The real cops are after him."
"Well, if I talk to you for any longer, the driver's gonna kill me, so I guess I'll talk to you later."
"Bye," Cory said. He then hung up. Red just stared out the window, excited to get home and just chill for the summer. Maybe he could go somewhere amazing with his friends and get away from summer work. But could he? After all, not everything in life could be avoided.
"Alright, Everyone on this stop, OUT!"
This was Red's stop. He and the other kids at the stop dashed out, but for some reason, his former classmate, Liz, walked out slowly. The second she got off the bus, the doors shut and it drove off. Red stared at Liz, then walked off. His home was a few blocks away, so he started to think: who was Troy Brown? was he about to get kidnapped? Was Brown waiting patiently to kill Red? Who knows? These actually got him extremely nervous.
Yeah, I would love to have that vacation with my squad right about now, Red thought to himself. Earlier, his friend, Quincy, planned a giant party for the week after school ended, and Red was invited. The party would include a ferry with a pool and a place to spend the night. However, Red has to hope that he didn't get abducted before then. He was thinking about the incident with the "cop" so much he almost passed his own house.
"Dad, Cory, I'm home!" Red called as he went inside.
"Red! Happy summer!" His Dad responded, " Your brother told me you know the recent events of today, do you?"
"Unfortunately. Now I can't wait for the party so I can say goodbye to reality."
"Well, your Mother is coming back next week, so..."
"Dad, she's coming back after the party."
Just after Red said that, someone knocked on the door. The two paused. Red's dad opened the door. A cop entered.
"Do you happen to have a 'Red Stevens?'" He asked.
"Uh, it's Sethens," Mr. Sethens responded, " But yes. Why?"
The cop didn't respond. Instead, he approached Red, grabbed him by the arms and cuffed him.
"You're coming with me." He said.
"W-wait! What did I do?!?"
The man didn't answer. He dragged Red outside and into the car.
"Wait! What's going on? Where are you taking me? Get me out! Someone help!!"
