1. Why Did You Have To Go

Nothing else could be heard over the gusts of wind and the rustling of the tree's overhead, the cool air of the night causing goosebumps to rise on Hirai Momo's skin. Taking slow strides she maneuvered through the Seoul National Cemetery, where just a day prior she had been to say goodbye to the love of her life. Upon reaching her destination, she lowered herself to the ground, her knees gently sinking into the soft soil beneath her. Her eyes were red, and her face cold from where the wind had been chilling her tears. Leaning forward slightly, she placed a single red rose upon the grave before her, her tears more eminent as she choked on her words.

"My sweet Dubu.. Happy birthday."

Kim Dahyun, vocalist and lead rapper of the popular K-Pop girl group Twice, age 19, died a week prior to her 20th birthday.

To Momo it all still didn't seem real, life for her had changed so unexpectedly, so quickly. The events of that day, forever etched into her mind, and the guilt overwhelming. They had simply gone out for coffee and a bit of light shopping, something they knew they wouldn't be able to do freely for some time, seizing the moment, they headed out. The sun was high, the sky as blue as the ocean, the gentle breeze calming, to put it simply, it was a perfect day.. or so she had thought.

As they approached a crosswalk nothing could be heard except the screams of people shouting "run." and "look out.". Their gaze turning, only to see a car approaching fast. Everything went black in that moment, Momo could only recall hands against her back, pushing, as she soon tumbled to the ground, the sound of tires screeching ringing in her ears. When her eyes finally opened she was met with the sight of the car, it had collided into a nearby building, debris and smoke had engulfed the area. Dahyun. Searching frantically, she could make out a figure lying amongst the smoke, her heart sank, her words catching in her throat. No.. Scrambling to her feet, her eyes now clouded with tears as she rushed over, her knees soon smacking hard into the concrete. "No.. no, no, no." Dahyun remained motionless, her body bruised and bleeding from the impact, her pale skin now had been diminished of any color it once had. Momo knew in that instant, her Dubu, her best friend and the love of her life, was gone.

Snapping back to reality, Momo leant forward, her forehead pressing into the curvature of the headstone as her sobs soon filled the air of the quiet night. "Dahyun.. why did you have to go.."
