**Kallie's P.O.V.**
"You free tonight Kal? I miss my bestie :( Meet me at the park at 9:30? :) xoxo Harry"
I read the text and immediately responded, "Course, babes. See ya then bff ;) xx Kallie"
I set down my phone and smiled. Harry always knew how to make me smile. To others, it may seem weird that we would be together in the park so late. But whenever Harry is back home in Wolverhampton, we like to watch the stars together. Now that Harry is famous, I barely find any time to be alone with him. We've been bestfriends since birth (I was born a day after him), and we've drifted since his audition on X Factor. Not that I'm not happy for him, his band is great. I just wish I had the old Harry back.
I picked up my iPhone 4s to check the time. 7:30. That gave me a little under two hours to get ready, the park was a 15 minute walk from my home. I sat in front of my mirror and just stared at myself. I've been doing this selm-esteem thing lately where you look in the mirror and compliment yourself on three things you like about yourself. Lame, I know. But it's working. First, my baby blue eyes. Second, my long, brown, straight hair. Third, my long, curly eyelashes. Okay so maybe I'm exaggerating a little. But I'm running out of compliments. I braided my hair to the side. I applied the slightest bit of mascara and lipgloss. I didn't try to dress up too much, just my Jack Wills hoodie and some light wash skinny jeans. I mean, it's Harry, and he's just a friend.. right?
9:15. Better get going. I slipped on my high top white converse and my grey beanie and started to walk. My neighborhood wasn't like your typical neighborhood. The houses were spaced pretty far apart and the houses were big. The landscapes were very well taken care of. It was a beautiful area. Just walking through it puts me in a good mood. I was deep into thought, not really paying attention when I walked right into a boy about two inches taller than me. I looked up,
"I'm so sorry I didn't mean t-Harry?" I grinned from ear to ear and gave him a huge hug. "It's so good to see you!" He hugged me back.
"I missed you Kal. The stars are starting to come out. Follow me." he held out his hand, which I took. He proceeded to take me out to the pier, where we used to run off to when we were younger. This place was full of memories. I come out here whenever I miss Harry. It makes me feel as if he were here with me all the time. This is my favorite place in the entire world, no doubt.
"Earth to Kallieee", Harry taunted. I snapped out of it.
"Sorry, just thinking about all the good times we used to have here." He smiled a genuine smile at me. We took our shoes off, rolled up our jeans and dangled out feet off the end of the pier. We talked and talked for hours. It was half one, and the sky was absolutely amazing. I loved this. I loved how I could talk to Harry about everything. It felt just like how it was before he was famous. I wish I could freeze this moment and live in it forever. I held on to every word he said. He talked about the boys in his band, how his life has changed, and how much me missed me, his best friend. I was concentrating on this moment when-"YOU'VE GOT THAT ONE THING!". My ringtone.
"I'm so sorry Har!" He chuckled softly. "Don't worry about it Kal. Who is it anyway? You're boyfriend?" Harry smirked. He knows I don't have a boyfriend.
"Haha, you're soo funny Harry. Me? Boyfriend? I wish." I looked at the phone, still ringing. "I'll be right back." I started to walk down the pier as I looked at caller ID. Uh oh. I've been wishing this call would never come.
"Hello?", I answered. "Hello, this is Dr. Morrow. May I speak to Kallie Lake?", the deep voice echoed through my phone. "Yes, this is her." "Good. We have your test scores." He paused for a response, but I didn't say a word. "You tested positive." "Positive? Positive for what?!" There was a pause before I heard those three bone rattling words. "Terminal brain cancer." I stopped dead in my track and dropped my phone. It crashed and shattered on the wooden pier. I didn't care. I have terminal brain cancer. I'm going to die.
**Harry's P.O.V.**
This night could not be more amazing. I'm at my favorite place in the world with my favorite person in the world. I felt like a little kid again, not having a care in the world. I could tell Kal was enjoying herself too, and I was happy. This whole fame thing is great, don't get me wrong. But I wish I had some time to just be a kid again.
Kal has gotten even more gorgeous since I have seen her last. Her blue eyes have gotten brighter. They have a sparkle that could light up the world. Her hair has gotten darker and healthier. Her eyelashes have gotten longer. She may not see it, but everything about her is just so perfect. I studied her face as she talked to me. She could get so lost in a story. I could tell it was a special moment between us.I was just about to tell her how lucky I am to be able to have such a wonderful best friend when-"YOU'VE GOT THAT ONE THING!" A song I'm not quit familiar with rung. Yeah, right.
It must be something important. I mean, usually she lets it go to voicemail, but I can tell she wanted to answer this one. I wasn't sure if she had a boyfriend or not. "Me? Boyfriend? I wish." I guess not. I didn't want to pressure her about it so I just let it go. She walked down the pier and answered her phone, leaving me alone to think. I was so busy concentrating on her that I didn't even realize how beautiful the sky was. The stars were bright and the moon reflected off the water. It was truly amazing. I started to count stars to pass time. I was at 41 when I head a crash. I whipped around to see Kal kneeling there with her head in her hands. Was she crying? I've only seen Kal cry a few times. I brought my feet up out of the water and ran over to her. She wiped her eyes and looked up at me.
"Kal! What's wrong? Are you okay?!" I threw out. "Yeah I'm fine I just-" she paused a second. "I just fell and hit my head. I'm okay though." "Are you sure?" "Yeah. I'm fine." She gave me a reassurring smile but I wasn't convinced. She obviously didn't want to talk about it.
"Well me and the rest of the boys are staying at the hotel in town. Would your mum let you us kidnap you for a while?" I offered. "My mum's gone for the whole summer. I can do whatever the hell I want." She laughed a little. "Let's get going." I held out my hand. She took it and we walked to the hotel in silence. Not awkward silence, but a perfect, comforting silence.
