Before I tell you my story, I need to tell you a little about myself. My name is Daniel, and I am thirteen years old and I live with my mum and dad, my two sisters, and my dog called Leroy. Well, that’s enough about me, so I shall go ahead and tell you my story.
I know what you’re thinking; a lucky boy like me going on another holiday. Last year dad took us to Kalbarri and now he’s taking us to Rottnest. What a holiday! It’s not like “I” get to choose. Why can’t he take us somewhere more exciting and more fun, like Egypt or Queensland? But nooo he wanted to go somewhere relaxing and spend some quality time with mum. At least we are going on a boat, and I can get room service whenever I want, so I guess I can live with that. But the worst thing is we have to bring my two irritating, stuck up sisters, Shanae and Hannah along. I don’t know why we can’t just sell them to a farm, it’s not like we’re going to have fun on this trip anyway.
Today’s the day we go to Rottnest. Better wake everyone up, or, I could not wake them up, but then I would have to go to school the next day. Okay, made up my mind – “EVERYBODY WAKE UP!”
“Oh”, said a groaning Hannah, “Daniel, some people are still trying to get some sleep.” “Oh okay then, it’s just that it is five o’clock and we are going to be late,” I said. “Late for what?” said Hannah.
“Late for Rottnest, of course. But you don’t want to go.” I said sarcastically. “Oh sweet niblets, why didn’t you tell me that before?” said Hannah. “See what I mean by irritating. Now let’s go, go, and go.” “Daniel, wake Shanae up and tell her to get ready”, said Hannah. “Ok, I’m on it”, I said. I walked into Shanae’s room, “Shanae, wake up, we have to get ready for the trip,” I said.
“A-ha, coming,” said Shanae.
“Ok, is everyone ready?” asked mum. “Yes, we’re all ready”, I replied.
“Okay everyone, put your bags in the boot, and then we’re off”, said dad. “Dad, I don’t want to leave Leroy behind”, I said.
“I’m sorry, but we cannot take him with us” said dad, emphatically.
“Why not?” I asked. Dad replied, “Because we have nowhere for him to stay”.
“He can stay with me in my room, please dad”, I begged.
“I have a better idea son; we shall take him to a great kennel where they can look after him while we are away. Besides, son, we would not be able to take a dog on board a boat!”
I said, “Okay, as long as he is well looked after”.
“Okay, is everyone in the car?” Dad asked. “Yes, we are all ready and in the car,” Mum replied.
We put Leroy in the back with myself and the girls, and then headed off to take him to his kennel. I was a bit nervous in leaving him, but Dad assured me he would be well looked after.
The lady at the kennel looked really nice, and Leroy nearly licked her to death, so I was happy to leave him there, with all the instructions of what he likes to eat and do. We all then, hopped back in the car, to head down to the harbour, leaving Leroy behind wagging his tail madly at the lady.
“Are we there yet?” Shanae asked. The traffic was horrendous as we travelled towards the harbour where we would get on board the boat to take us to Rottnest. Excitement was building in the car, and we were just hanging on getting there soon!
We arrived at the boat harbour, to then get our bags out of the car, and head on down to the jetty where we saw the boat. We handed our tickets over to the Captain and then made our way to what we thought would be the best seats for the time we would be on the boat.
It was really cold, and I had forgotten to pack a jacket, so I was freezing. It was now time for lunch on board and because it was so cold we had a choice of soup or a roast dinner. I think this trip may not be so boring after all, yet, the Captain looked quite strange, and it made me wonder whether he could get us safely to Rottnest, or not. I felt a little sea sick.
We arrived at Rottnest and found our way to the cabin where we would be staying. I came to the door of my room and heard a squeaking sound as I reached for the door handle, and without me touching it; to my surprise it opened by itself. I felt this sickening feeling in my stomach, because I could not believe what had just happened.
I ran to my bed and hopped in, and put the covers over my head and pretended that it hadn’t happened, saying to myself “It was just the wind. There are no such things as ghosts”. I closed my eyes and tried to get to sleep. I heard the ticking of the clock going “tick tock tick tock” in a minute of silence. Then all of a sudden the window opened and leaves, red leaves, flew into my room and onto my bed. The curtains flew from side to side being blown by the wind. The lights flickered on and off, on and off. I heard a scary laugh and something I didn’t know was saying “Hold me, hold me”. I yelled out, “No leave me alone whatever you are”. I saw what looked like a black figure coming towards my bed with a sword in its hand. It was getting closer and closer, and all of a sudden there was silence. I heard no more sound. It had gone, or was it just the beginning?
I got out of my bed and put on my slippers. They were all wet and had all green goo, all sticky and disgusting, all over them. I walked up and down to see if the coast was clear. I looked under my bed and anywhere else it could possibly be. I looked high and low, far and near, but I could not see it anywhere. I said to myself, “It has gone, it has definitely gone”. I went back to my bed and turned off the light and went to sleep. But wait! Something was not right. I felt kind of strange. Why would something evil come to my room and then disappear? I decided to turn the light back on and all of a sudden I saw a doll, a blonde haired doll with blue eyes. It was just staring at me with a strange look on its face. I decided to put the doll in my closet and lock the door, just in case it was the one who was haunting me. I walked to my bed and took my slippers off and got into my bed and tried to go to sleep.
I woke up next morning after a very restless night and looked around my room and saw that everything was back to normal. Maybe I had just been dreaming about this doll! I heard everyone outside my room madly getting their stuff packed for our trip home.
I did not bother to tell anyone of my weird night, as they would not have believed me anyway. I started to pack and looked back just to check the closet once again where I had placed the doll. I opened the door very nervously only to find that the doll was no longer there.
Instead, it was on my bed and seemed to be waving goodbye to me!
Anyway, that is my story about my trip to Rottnest with my family.
THE END………….
