“No,” Jo shook his head and twigs fell out, “I just shot close to it. The birds flew away because it was a loud noise.”
“What were you doing up a tree?”
“I was chucking bird’s nests at Everett?” Jo suggested with a sheepish smile.
Lucca rolled his eyes, “Yeah right. You destroyed something on accident again didn’t you?”
“No?” He asked.
“It’s so obvious,” I muttered.
“What did you say Jesse?” Lucca turned to me, “What did you say?”
“It’s so obvious,” I said a little louder and clearer.
“Does it have anything to do with my camera lying on the ground?” He pointed at it.
“Oh no it doesn’t,” Nathan replied drily, “It’s just chilling there with the batteries scattered around it and the lens scratched.”
“Jo!” Lucca chased after him.
“Nice job Nathan,” I picked up the camera, “You just had to didn’t you?”
“Yeah couldn’t help it,” He admitted.
“You just got rid of Jo, our minister of defence, attack and other military stuff like weapons master and Lucca which means he has the idea still. He had an idea and you made him chase Jo!” Everett exclaimed, “That means we have to wait longer!”
I think my IQ is dropping significantly with the amount of time I have to spend around these guys. No wonder when we were still friends I managed to blow up the back yard with a blowtorch and a tank of gas. Ha. That at least was fun.
“Well we can just start setting up the other stuff? I think we should have some kind of peace offering,” Nathan suggested, “You know. Like a marshmallow. And it seems like we also need some paper and a pencil so that the presence can write a message.”
“Yeah otherwise it might decide to paint in blood,” I grumbled, “Can you actually see us chanting around a piece of paper?”
“I can imagine you doing that. Everyone already thinks you’re crazy. Can’t imagine us doing that. It’d make us as crazy as you,” Everett started throwing sticks and leaves away from our camera setting up area.
“What are you doing?” I asked ignoring the fact that he just called me crazy.
“I’m clearing the sticks and leaves.”
“No kidding.”
“You didn’t let me finish. I’m clearing them because I suspect this thing wants us to be respectful and so we need to take off our shoes and stuff like that,” He continued throwing the sticks out of the way.
“So what you want us to dance around a campfire naked?” I raised an eyebrow, “Because that’s too crazy even for me. I’m quitting if you even think of suggesting that.”
“No way! I’m just clearing this away so we can walk around if we need to. Like walk closer to the presence. And so then Jo won’t trip over any thing and scare it away.”
“His snoring scares it away. I think every time he’s the one who scares it away,” I crossed my arms, “And the guy can trip over even if there’s nothing there to trip over.”
“Hmm yeah good point,” Everett paused in his sweeping and thought for a couple of seconds, “But at least we won’t trip over.”
“We don’t trip over,” Nathan answered, “We’re not super crazy and clumsy like Jo.”
