-6 years old-

"Wake up Earl, it's time for school!"

Today was my first day of the first grade. In kindergarten, I had not made many friends, so this year, my mom was excited for my fresh start.

My mom did not have many friends as well, she always counted on me, so she could make easy friends with the parents of my friends.

All my life I lived with my mother, I had no siblings, nor a father. I was the only one my mother had, but it was not much fun talking to a six-year-old, especially when you're almost fourty, and the only things your child does is recite the alphabet.

It took me a while to get dressed- I decided to wear my favourite outfit, a worn pink shirt with a tight ballerina tutu. I had worn this outfit so much, that it had started to get small on me.

After that, I stumbled to the kitchen where my mother was, making breakfast.

"Hello darling!" My mother said estatically.

I knew my mother had woken up very early, and not gotten much sleep because of the bags under her eyes. Perhaps she was worried? Maybe she needed time to make my lunch and breakfast. Whatever it was, I hoped she was okay.

"I made you French toast Earl, hope you like it!" I looked in my mother's tired, dull eyes, and took the plate of well-made French toast from her hands. I sat down at the dinner table, taking small, slow bites.

Halfway through my breakfast, my mom sat next to me, looked at me right in the eyes and said,

"Earl, today I want you to try your very best to make friends, okay? The friends you make today will last you forever, okay Earl?"

"Yes mommy, I will make friends, just for you!"

My mother giggled, put my backpack on my back, and I was off to school.
