when i was 10 years old
i held a pencil in my hand
firmly wrapped my small fingers
around the wood
and created truth on lined paper
i made women my heroes
made my thoughts into actions
and built a world for myself
on a foundation of syllables
consonants
and vowels
these words were my friends
my saviors
they gave me purpose in life
taught me that just because i can't stand now
doesn't mean it'll be now forever
that now is universal
when it touches a paper
taught me that i can will myself
to be better
and i did
with my little poems
that fixed me after i broke myself
i am 15
willing myself
back into sense
with my own being
