As I walked through the stage to receive my diploma all I could think about was what I would do after I ended with college once and for all. My parents were seated in the audience I don't know were, but I'm pretty sure that they were just praying for the ceremony to end so they could go to the airport and board their flight for Indonesia, they couldn't plan their vacation for another time or maybe just invite me, instead they had to leave on one of the most important days of my life, one that I wish I could spend with my family, but that's not going to happen.

Once the ceremony was over all the college graduates walked over to where the party was going to take place, I walked over to my parents who looked very eager to leave.

"Congratulations sweetie", said my mom trying to be very motherly all of a sudden.

"Congratulations Bearcup, this is the start of the amazing career and future that you have ahead", said daddy dearest always trying to impart his wisdom.

"Oh, enough Seb, Irina you need to take us to the airport, and we have to leave now or we're going to lose our flight, so let's go!" said my mom leaving my father and I.

My father just sighed and followed her. I don't blame the guy for becoming just like my mother, I mean I should be happy that they didn't got divorced when it was the fashion, but once I got to high school they cared more about planning vacations that their daughter. That's why since high school I've been independent and buy my own stuff.

We all got into my parent's SUV and headed to the airport. If I'm being honest I can't wait for them to leave, I already have plans to move to Chicago and start a life of my own. As pathetic as it sounds I don't want to live close to my parents, and more importantly I don't want them meddling in my private and professional life, that's just unacceptable.

As we walk through the airport I see all these families heading to the different gates either they are leaving together on a trip, or crying parents are saying goodbye to their kids. And here I am saying goodbye to my parents. My parents flight starts being called so I walked them to their gate, where my mom gives a very short and awkward goodbye hug, and my dad told me to enjoy the beginning of my new life, after that they left, and so did I.

When I got to my parents house I started putting my suitcases in the SUV, I didn't book a flight to Chicago, instead I decided to do a roadtrip. I will enjoy the long drives and the scenery, basically I'm making this roadtrip the vacation my parents didn't want to include me in. Leaving Oregon it's going to be a good thing because that means that I'm making new changes in my life, and I'm stepping out of my comfort zone. I have a couple of interviews in Chicago, and I'm hopeful that I get at least one of the positions. Even though I don't have a full scheduled plan and I don't know what this new changes and this new city will bring for me, I know that I have to leave if I'm going to make a life of my own I can't do it in this place, my hometown, even worse I can't do it near my parents, I have to start making hard decisions when it comes to my life, and this is one of them.

Once I'm done loading the car, I decide to take one last look at the house, I know that this will not be the last time that I will see it, but I'm leaving for a long time so I'm bound to become a little bit emotional when it comes to the house where I've grown up. As I go into my room one last time before I leave, I stand near the door and I start seeing myself during the past years, in high school typing madly on my computer while writing those dreadful essays, and in college writing more essays and monographs, but now I'm standing here a college graduate with a bachelor's degree in Communications and Journalism. I walk out of my room, and head downstairs, I take one last look at the living room before walking out of the house and getting into the SUV. I start driving out of the house and as I drive farther  I see my house disappearing from my rearview mirror, and everything becomes clearer, a smile settles up on my face, and I continue driving with one single thought in my mind.

I'm ready to start my new life...
