"No."

"But why?"

"Because I said so."

"But that's not a good reason, dad."

"It is if I say it is," John said to his son disapprovingly. "I don't want you to be on any of those social media websites. It's not safe. You never know who is your friend or who is trying to kidnap you."

Joel sighed, "But everyone else has one, so why can't I?"

"If all of your friends jumped off of a bridge, would you do it too? I only care about you and your safety." he paused for a long moment and thought to himself. "No means no. I don't want you on any of these social media websites. Now go to bed. It's getting late. We'll talk about this tomorrow."

Joel stormed out of his father's office grumbling to himself, "It's not fair. Everyone else has one so why can't I?"

When Joel was walking upstairs he ran into his older brother William, " so you tried to talk dad into letting you get an Instagram account again?"

"How could you tell?" Joel asked grumpily.

"Because you have that same sulking expression as you did last week when you asked the same question and he said no." William said with an amused smile, "Just stop asking. Dad won't say yes anytime soon so just deal with it."

"But it's just not fair!" Joel cried, "He never lets us have any fun!"

John reclined back with a sigh after overhearing his son's conversation, "I wonder how persistent they would be if they knew about how many crimes have been committed using all types of social media. How many belongings have been taken, how many family members have gone missing and haven't returned, and how many families have been torn apart because of it." John finished up a police report then and read it over before he went to bed.

Young girl age 14, kidnapped at park, suspected to have been lured there by an online 'friend' through Instagram found dead 4 days later in alleyway two miles away, possible suspect adult male age 50 to 55.

"Why do I always get the social media cases? They're the hardest to solve and the worst to break to the family. 'I'm sorry Mr. and Mr. so and so your son or daughter was 'friends' with their murder and thought that they should go out at night to meet them.' Kids these days." John rolled his eyes at the thought of his children doing something like that, "They have more common sense than that. They should know that to say and what not to say online."

John checked his phone. The only thing on it was a missed call from work and a text from his wife. The call was from his boss telling him to come in early to the station tomorrow. The text from his wife was telling him that she had to work the night shift at the hospital again. Just as he was about to shut off his phone he noticed a arrow at the top of the screen by the WiFi icon. He paused and thought for a moment, "This phone must be defective or broken, that arrow has been showing up for a few weeks now at the same time each night" Just as he said that the arrow disappeared. "That's weird. Maybe it's just a glitch. Either that or I'm going insane from all the work I have." he said with a smile as he shut off the computer and went upstairs to his room for the night.
