I sit here, unaffiliated
Growing ever more aware of the drunken idiots dancing just to my left
We're a group, of course
Together, but apart
Always together but apart
They're having a good time
I'm waiting for the party to end
Every so often I scold someone for doing something they shouldn't, as the oldest among us is the drunkest
The oldest being 20 and I being twelve
Together but apart
Drunk and sober
Dancing and writing
Having a good time and just hanging in there
Together but apart
Never one
Just because oil is dumped into water doesn't mean they'll mix
In fact, it's a universal truth that they won't mix, they can't
That's what it's like with my family
Oil and water
Together but apart
