Ariel's POV
This wasn't my first party, though I wasn't a party girl; It was only a scene I enjoyed when my friends were there. I wasn't the type of girl to go to 'get laid' as my friends would have said. But I did enjoy the dancing and hanging out with my friends aspect of parties.
This was a Halloween party, and once again I srress, I am not innocent. However I swear to God I had never worn anything as revealing as what my best friend dressed me in that night.
"Shirley, I look like a whore. You cannot make me go out in this!" I whined, looking at myself in the bathroom mirror. It was supposed to be a slutty vampire costume, but it really was just a short black bodycon dress with long lace sleeves and the entire top of it being lace as well. It stopped right below my butt and it was without a doubt the shortest dress I owned. There was also a necklace with a big red gem on it and tall black pumps.
Of course, another piece of the costume was a set of fake fangs that looked as real as possible. It was a tad awkward to speak with but I was slowly becoming accustomed to it. Still, I was sure I would not be able to become accustomed to the short length of the dress.
"Ariel, we don't have time to argue! Come on, you look gorgeous. Get your ass out here and pick which costume I should wear," Shirley demanded, and being the amazing friend I was, I gave in and exited the bathroom to help Shirley prepare.
In about an hour Shirley's boyfriend had shown up to pick her up to spend an hour together before they would head to the party, leaving me to head over alone. Typical of Shirley.
Of course, with my luck my old rusty Buick refused to start. All it did was huff a bit and this wasn't an unusual occurrence. My car was old, it did this quite often. Luckily, the address for the party was only a few blocks away. I could walk.
As much as I prided myself with being able to walk in heels very well, my feet were killing me by the time I reached the street the party was located on.
I grumbled to myself in annoyance, muttering words of curse. There were cars lined up and down the road and I was too annoyed to check my phone to confirm I had the right street number for the house. This house looked about right, I could have sworn Shirley texted me that it was number 53. All the windows were boarded off and the building looked abandoned, but I figured perhaps that had to do with the fact that it was a Halloween themed party. After all, I could see that lights were on.
As you were supposed to do when arriving at a party, I walked up to the door and opened it. You weren't supposed to knock, at least I didn't at the previous parties I went to. Of course, I was surprised when I stumbled in and didn't see anyone in the main room.
"H-hello?" I called out in confusion. The house was weirdly cold, especially considering my attire and my heart started to beat faster when I didn't receive a response.
Crap, this must be the wrong house.
I immediately went to back out of the house when I realized the door had shut silently behind me. I watched way, way too many horror movies for this to be happening, especially on Halloween.
However, before I could go to stutter out a scream all it took was one second and then there was a hand over my mouth and I was backed into the door, the hand muffling the scream that tried to escape.
I had no idea what happened but all it took was my hazel eyes to look up into the man's dark eyes and I knew I was in trouble.
The man was pale with dark chocolate eyes and an amazing bone structure, definitely taller than me as well, his hair dark and styled but still messy looking.
"Is there a reason you're trespassing into my property, in the middle of the night, on Halloween?" The man spoke and his voice had a lilt to it, a pretty musical accent that I couldn't place. I swore I'd seen him before. School, perhaps? He did look to be my age.
"I-I came for a Halloween party, I thought this was the address. I'm sorry, I'll just be going—" I squeaked out and his eyes zoned in on the fake fangs I had, amusement washing over his expression, not even letting me finish speaking before he cut me off.
"And what are you supposed to be? A vampire?" The man asked, a deep chuckle escaping his lips and I swore if I wasn't terrified I would find him attractive.
"I-I, um, y-yes, but I'll be going if that's okay—" I stuttered out a response, getting a bad vibe about this situation. Especially when the man ducked his head down close to me, his nose almost brushing over my jaw. I sucked in a breath and turned my head to the side out of instinct, drawing another deep chuckle out of him.
"Going so soon? But you just arrived," The man nearly purred, and I swallowed thickly, my body pressed back against the door as much as I could, my eyes flicking around in hope to find an escape.
"I'm Rivers. And what's your name, love?" The man — Rivers — asked and I could feel his breath fan over my skin, raising goosebumps.
"Ariel," I squeaked out, my voice raising a pitch with how nervous I was. I was starting to feel warm, which was odd considering how freezing it was in the house.
"Well, Ariel, I deeply apologize for what I'm about to do. It's really a shame you've got to die. You were so pretty, too."
And then I felt a sharp spike of pleasure and pain in my throat that made me gasp as he sunk his fangs into my skin.
