It was the day before winter break starts, although it felt like any other day. My best friend Libby and I sat down our trays at our usual spot.. right by the garbage cans. I wouldn't say we were the most or least liked among our peers, I'd say average, I guess. We are just the suckers that got stuck sitting next to a landfill.
Hi, I'm Grace. I'm a 17 year old at Oakland High school. Like I said a bit ago, my best friend is a girl named Libby. We've been best friends since 7th grade. Libby is a bit on the aggressive side. She's loud and isn't afraid of anything.
Me on the other hand, I'm timid, quiet, and anxious. Libby has an hour glass figure and blonde hair, and I am a bean pole with brown hair. We are so opposite it's comical.
Libby took a drink and slammed down the carton, "You know.. This would be a perfect opportunity to you know..".
She wasn't even trying to suppress a smirk.
I tried to act clueless, but I knew what she was going to say. "Perfect opportunity for what?"
"To ask out Xaaaaander!!!"
"Shut up!!!" I hushed swatting her arm. I paused, slightly curious,"How do you figure?"
"Break is coming up! You could spend New Years with your hunk! Worse case scenario, he rejects you. Break would let you collect yourself and save face. Great plan right?"
"I'm not really so sure.. I don't even think he likes me.."
Libby started shoving me into the direction of Xander, and my feet couldn't stop. He was leaning in the doorway talking to his friend, Connor. When I turned around, Libby wasn't there. Just great. I sighed. Connor walked away as I approached.
I guess Libby's thinking wasn't totally wacko, but I didn't have time to prepare. I'm not ready!!
"Hey Princess Ace!" Xander said hugging me tight.
As I pulled away he moved a few hairs away from my face. I blushed wildly.
"Hi..", that was all I could muster.
So stupid!
I've liked Xander for like, forever ever. Ever since I met him I thought he was so cool and kind. I have never met a guy like him. The first time I met him, we were lab partners and he was always saving my behind. We've been close friends since then, I'm not even sure if he has any idea I have feelings for him.
"Hellooo. Earth to Grace!" Xander said waving his hand in front of my face grinning.
"Oh, I'm sorry. What were you saying?"
"I was just asking you if you'd like to come volunteer with me this Saturday?"
"Time check?"
"Sure. So, what did you need?"
"Um, I was gonna say.." I looked around for Libby. I could kill her.
"I like you, like, like-like you".
I waited for an answer biting my lip.
Xander's eyes flashed at mine then his mouth parted slightly. His eyes dropped to the floor.
