The anger in her eyes is something unlike anything I have ever seen before. Her fists are clenched so tight her knuckles are white, and... Is that blood seeping between her fingers?
I don't know why Luca is saying these things or why mentioning a ring would set Dorian off so bad, but I am frozen where I stand along with the monks behind me. I turn to Asum, hoping she is making a move to put an end to this, but she, too, is frozen in place. Luca just stands there with a psychotic grin on his face, and we are all waiting to see what will happen next.
We have always been taught to keep our anger at bay, because when we let it loose we are defenseless. With that in mind, it makes whatever ring Luca is referring to even more significant. She knows better than to lose herself like this. If he decides to do something reckless or attack Dorian, I'll need to jump in to protect her.
"Did I upset you Dorian?" Luca says still smiling manically. "Is there something you'd like to share with us? A secret you've kept hidden from us all?" He's almost shouting at her, and I want to go over there and cave his face in.
Dorian's lip pulls up in a snarl and a heaviness hangs in the air. The ground begins to shake under my feet, and I almost topple over. The monks speak to each other in their foreign language I don't understand, but they sound frightened. What is happening?
Luca's smile widens as Dorian slowly starts to lift off the ground, taking chunks of the ground with her. I can hardly breathe, and I didn't realize I've extended my blade, ready.
The world continues to shake, Dorian continues to float above the ground, her jet black hair flowing around her. Then, in almost an instant, she closes her eyes and her features appear calm. The ground becomes stable and Dorian is lowered to her feet. Luca looks surprised and just the littlest bit sane. Everything goes quiet.
I take a step towards Dorian, but before I can get close, she opens her eyes and my heart goes into my throat. Her eyes are glowing the same color as her blade, which she has extended out both arms. She is staring right at Lucas with a deathly calm that terrifies even me. Luca is pale and looks like he is staring at death. He might as well be.
"Dorian?" As though me saying her name was an invitation, she strikes.
Lucas tries to run, but a dark line burns in the wall in beside him as Dorian's blade flashes across his path with deathly accuracy. He tries to run the other way, but to come to another stop as Dorian cuts him off. He is left standing back in between the two streaks of dark burnt on either side of him. He is shaking badly.
Dorian straightens herself, and her elegant blades of light remain at her sides, glowing and ready to do whatever she tells them to do. I swear that she's smiling behind her curtain of hair.
Lucas' face goes from fear to rage. "I see how it is," he says through clenched teeth. "I'm trying to help you out of this poor excuse of a prison, and this is how you treat me? Well, I'm not going to just sit here and take this."
To everyone's surprise, Lucas extends his arm and a nasty looking blade of pure black and crimson extends from his arm. Its form looks archaic and almost leaks a liquid blackness as blood red tendrils shimmer off the guard. I have never seen anything like it.
Dorian's features remain calm, even as Lucas surges and attacks. Gold light flashes as both of their blades make contact. Dorian doesn't wait a second and pushes him back. Lucas has no time before Dorian is slashing at him again.
William could only watch as the two had it out in the training hall, blades flying through the air, colliding and slashing stone. Dorian's movements are so gracious and brutal. She'll leap so elegantly like a feather in the wind and then bring her blade down like a wrecking ball. Lucas is barely dodging each attack and is jumping off beams and walls to avoid each one.
Will turns to Asum. "Are we just going to sit here and let this happen?"
That seems to snap the monk out of her trance, and she fixes William with a cold stare. "We will not interfere with this battle. Dorian can hold her own. Just sit and watch."
William's blood starts roaring. If she thinks that he's just going to let his best friend fight on her own, then she is sorely mistaken.
Will makes to put an end to this, but a massive golden blade stops him in his tracks. "You better listen to your master if you know what's best for you. You will learn soon enough why you should leave her be. For now, watch and learn, for you have much to learn."
Will knew he could do nothing against it, so he retracted his blade and watched.
Dorian and Lucas are still leaping around like crazy, except Lucas decided to bring out a second blade and is bringing them down on Dorian like a madman. Dorian is dodging and deflecting every blow like second nature. William has never seen her move so fast.
Lucas is caught by surprise when Dorian leaves him wide open and delivers a kick to his chest that sends him to the back wall. Lucas doesn't even hit the ground before Dorian is on him, grabbing him by the shirt and tossing him across the room. How is she so strong? How is she moving so fast?
