~Ruby~

I was heartbroken.

And hungry too.

I was very sad.

And so was my stomach.

I decided to take care of my stomach first because I was not sure how to make myself undepressed(Is that even a word?).

I went to the pantry and grabbed a box of crackers. I was extremely upset and I had a good reason. This morning, I went into my barn to feed as I always do, and I found my horse, Dylan, had passed away. He was old, yes, and I had expected it, but it was still really upsetting to lose a long time companion. I got him when I was 8 and he was 13. My dad bought him for my birthday and he had just been a backyard horse. He sat in a field and did nothing. I then, trained him and he became the top show horse in the following years. We went through a lot together. Whether it was to going to a major working cow horse show together (which we did many of), going on trail rides, or helping my dad round up his herd of over 100 cows, we did it together. We had 10 great years together and this morning those 10 years came to a close.

When I got back to my house, I started feeling depressed. I had locked myself in, what I like to call, Ruby's Room. It was my parents guest house but I had begged and fought for it once I turned 16. It was my home and I loved it here. For the past 2 years I had turned it into my own place. It was a safe haven to get away from everything. I had pictures of One Direction everywhere, espically Niall. My 2 brother's Bradley and David, had avoided this place since they saw my new decor of 1D. Brad was, even more upset than his twin, Dav that I took over what was there clubhouse.

At the age of 16 they were identical twins, except for Dav had a single freckle on his left wrist. They had dirty blond hair with natural highlights. Dav had his hair cut short because he was into hockey and it was required. Brad on the other hand had hair that covered the tips of his ears and was sideswept to the left so it covered his left eye.

I was upset and had already finished my crackers. I did the only thing I knew would make me feel better. I texted my friend from the barn, Kylie. She was my neighbor and boarded her horse, Roxanne, along side my two, previously 3, Ava and Maddie. No one had known what happened yet and she would be the first.

To Kylie:

Wanna come ovr and ride?

She responded in a matter of seconds.

From Kylie:

Sure, whats going on?

She can always tell when somethings going on.

To Kylie:

Tell you later. Bring ur sleepovr stuff.

By the time Kylie arrived in her little yellow lovebug, I had tacked up Roxanne and Ava, for us and we were ready to ride. Stadium jumping and barrel racing were my 2 favorite horse sports. Ava's specialty was stadium jumping and Maddie's is barrel racing. Kylie and Roxanne only rode in stadium jumping so when I rode with her, I rode Ava. Riding always took my mind off things espically with friends.

As we got on I could see Kylie giving me questioning looks, but she knew better to ask. We had know each other since we were 4. She knew to wait until I was calmed down to ask what happened. That would be after I had ridden.

After we had hopped down and cooled our horses, we were putting back our tack in the tack room when she corned me.

"Okay, what the hell happened", she asked gently.

I told her the whole story and had finished before I started crying. She pulled me into a quick hug and finished night feeding and chores together, before we went up to my little house.

I had called mom before to say Kylie was staying over so she knew we were making our own dinner. Kylie immediately took over. She stays over a couple times a week and it's her second home. I was done crying, so I had begun thinking about Dylan again. Kylie had noticed how quiet I was.

"Uh oh, she's thinking. That's never good", she commented trying to cheer me up.

"Shut up!", I laughed for the first time that day, throwing a pillow at her.

"Hey watch it your gunna mess up the mac&cheese!" But I wasn't listening. I was back to thinking about him.
