Kate’s POV

I was so close to the exit. Just a few more steps and I would’ve been free. But, unfortunately I was stopped. Stopped by that same, firm grip on my arm from the same old fingers that could always seem to make my heart stop. I was about to pull away, but when I was pulled into his warm, comforting chest I knew it was far too late. He had me wrapped around his finger, and he knew it. He was my one weakness and I his.

“K.” The use of my old nickname forced my heart to clench, and my mind instantly flashed back to the past. Our past.

“Please. Please just listen. Five minutes is all I ask.”

I hesitantly turned my body until I was facing him, but I didn’t dare look into his eyes. I sucked in a shaky breath before responding “Okay. Five minutes at my place,” and with that I hurried towards my car with him tracing closely behind.

Sin’s POV

The car ride to Kate’s place was silent. The only sound that dared be heard was the smooth sound of the tires spinning. I couldn’t help but to catch a glimpse of her beautiful face every now and then. Wow, she hasn’t changed a bit. After all these years, she’s still my sweet, innocent Kate. I watch as her hands grip the steering wheel tightly with a slight shake. She’s nervous. I find it funny how I still know her like the back of my hand. I’m pulled away from my thoughts when the car comes to an abrupt stop. I quickly look towards her house, and my mouth drops.

“Is this-“

“Yes, unfortunately I still live here,” she replies with a slight frown. I take a long look at the old house before sucking in a breath.

‘So many memories.’

I lean closer to her and rest my hand on her knee in an attempt to comfort her. She flinches, and her eyes quickly dart towards the contact. She’s uncomfortable. I quickly retreat my hand. “Listen, it doesn’t ha-“

“Come on. The sooner you’re in, the sooner you’re out,” she replies sternly before rushing out of the car and towards her front door. I glance at the house and a slight smile crawls onto my face.

I chuckle before heading towards the door where Kate was still fumbling with her keys. I grab them from her and she freezes. I find the key and chuckle when I notice she still hasn’t changed it. I unlock the door then look to her and watch how she still doesn’t move an inch. “So? C’mon. The sooner I’m in, the sooner I’m out, K.” I mock her words as I walk inside, not missing the small blush growing on her cheeks. I still have that effect on her? Hm, good to know.

She closes the door and follows me in. I’m about to plop down on the couch when a loud crack of thunder pops; making Kate jump and let out a small yelp. I instinctively wrap my arms around her and pull her close to my chest as I rub her soft, fluffy hair for comfort. She relaxes and it felt like the world stopped for a split second before she suddenly pulls away and points to the couch, which signals me to sit. I sit down silently, and feel horrible. I’ve been gone for ten years.

Ten fucking years.

No calls. No texts. Nothing.

I don’t deserve this. I can’t just walk in here treating her as if she was still mine. As if we were still seen as one. I look over towards her to see that she’s breathing heavily and there are tears forming in her eyes. My heart clenched. I just want to take away the pain I’ve caused. I reach for her, but she flinches; making my heart clench even more.

“I just… need a minute, Sin,” she tells me. I nod as she walks away.

‘It’s going to be a long night.’ I think to myself.
