Chapter 2.Chemistry
"Well, this is Coach Viles' room. Hey, let me see your schedule."
Alex pulled a folded up piece of white copy paper out of his back pocket and handed it to Will.
"Let's see...after Lunch you have...Gym! Yes! I do too!"
"That's great...I guess."
"Well, I'll see you at Lunch and then Gym. Later, bro."
"Bye."
Alex slowly entered the classroom. As he did, he looked at the expressions on the faces of the other students, they were hiding something. The teacher was nowhere in sight. Alex then quickly turned to his right, and there he was, Coach Viles, with the same mischievous look on his face.
"How did you-"
"I just did." Alex said quickly with an attitude that caught the attention of his classmates.
"Well...someone needs an attitude adjustment." Coach Viles said as he crossed his arms.
"Oh...I, uhh...it just annoys me when people try to scare me."
The teacher suddenly broke out laughing hysterically.
"Gotcha! It's okay, bud! Welcome to Physical Science"
A look of confusion was written all over Alex's face.
"Okay?"
"Okay is right," Coach Viles put his arm over Alex's shoulders, pulling him close, and pointed to an empty seat, "That's your seat. Your book is ready and everything. Now where is that beautiful young lady that is supposed to be sitting next to you at that table?"
"I'm right here." A familiar voice called out.
"Sara, how many times do I have to tell you not to use the graduated cylinders to drink water out of?"
Sara Faith walked into the classroom from the lab, hypnotizing Alex once again.
"Oh, don't worry Coach, I brought my own drink today." She held up a Monster energy drink.
"She likes Monsters..." Alex said to himself.
"Well that's good to know. Take your seat...and make Mr. Corpus feel welcome. And would you mind telling me what you were doing in the lab?"
"Seeing what it would be like to drink a Monster out of a graduated cylinder."
Everyone in the class busted out laughing except for Alex, who could do nothing but stare at Sara.
"And what were the results of your experiment?" Coach Viles asked.
"That I should use a funnel next time."
The class broke out into another bout of laughing hysterically, again except for Alex.
"At least you're using science...in a way. Now, Sara, Alex, take your seats."
....
The classroom was dark, the only light came from the projector as the students copied their notes. Alex Corpus was still staring at Sara Faith, who finally noticed him.
"What are you staring at?" She asked.
"The beauty of your perfect self."
Sara raised her left eyebrow and popped her bubblegum.
"What?"
Alex quickly snapped back into reality, "I mean...I don't know."
"Okay then. So you're Alex Corpus?"
"Yes, I am."
"Cool. I like your shirt." She said as she poked Alex's black and blue checkered shirt.
Alex's cheeks turned more and more red with every poke.
"Umm...thanks."
"And nice jeans too. Where do you get your clothes?"
"Hot Topic, Spencers, Rue 21...places like that."
"Those are my favorite stores."
Sara began copying the notes from the projector and Alex followed suit. When Coach Viles began explaining the notes again, Sara drew a deep breath and silently began speaking to Alex once more.
"Tomorrow, right after school, me, Will, and Lily are going to the mall...you can come too if you want."
A bead of sweat formed on Alex's cheek as he began to talk.
"Sure. Yeah, I'll go."
"Beautiful."
"What's beautiful?" Alex asked, confused.
"It's just...it's what I say instead of awesome and stuff like that sometimes."
"Oh...I see."
"Alex and Sara," Coach Viles called out, "are you two getting this?"
The two quickly jerked their heads up to lock eyes with their Physical Science teacher. Sara was the first to speak up.
"Yep! We got all of it."
"Good. Keep it up. Now-"
The coach was cut short by the bell, signaling the start of Lunch.
