I remembered the giraffe. The soft glow of his fur, the way he slowly ate the leaves, but not that night. I can't remember anything from that night.
Yawning as I woke up from my slumber, I forced myself out of my warm and comfortable bed. I look around the room, only softly illuminated by the sun shining through the thick dark curtains of the bedroom. I slowly shuffle to the kitchen.
"I haven't had my morning soup." I whisper to myself.
My morning soup is the energizer I need to get through each painful day. Everyone says life is a blessing, but I strongly disagree with that lie of a statement. Each day I try to find the only thing that I cared about. No matter how hard I try I can't seem to find him, and later I'm forced to relive that horrible nightmare. It always was him, the giraffe, smiling at me. He doesn't say a word but I always feel so happy just being in his presence, but then it all disappeared. Every tree, the water, the ground, and him.
After moping around for an hour after my soup, I decide to go out to talk to some friends. A lizard and saxophone fish who work at my local Subway. I walk in, the ring of the small bell and the workers greeting me. I'm not sure if I knew them previously but they helped me live through my amnesia, along with giving me sub discounts.
"So what will it be today Soup? ?" Lizel asked
"Probably just the usual", is the only thing that my cloudy mind could think of.
"Here you are", Lizel spoke awkwardly while he handed me the sub.
"Thank you have a nice day."
I started to leave while letting my mind wander. Saz was a very kind fish but she normally kept to herself and she was currently helping other customers, so I unfortunately couldn't talk to her. Lizel on the other hand was nice like Saz, but he acted as though he was scared of me. I decided not to dwell on these somewhat useless topics as I made my way to the subway station to board a train. Each and every day I go to all the places that I remember going to with Giraffe with a slight hope, but I know that no matter how hard you try to hope, it will come up pointless. Just as I'm about to board my train I glance to my side. To my astonishment, there he was.
I had my doubts about it actually being him. Don't get me wrong, I would be overjoyed if it was but I've had this hallucination before. I always used to see him wherever I was standing, not to far from me. But to my dismay it was never true. Despite the doubts in my mind I swiftly glided across the pavement to where he was standing. The closer I got to him, the same question of "Is this real?" kept repeating in my mind. Just as I got close enough to expect him to disappear from me again, I reached out a hand to touch him and...I did. Giraffe turned around to face me, obviously startled by the sudden contact of my hand.
"Soup? ?" He asked clearly surprised to see me standing here.
My vision got blurry as tears began to prick my eyes.
"Is it you? Are you really here in front of me, Giraffe?"
My silent prayers that he was here, in front of me, were answered with one word.
"Yes."
Thats it, thats all he said, but it was enough to have me sobbing in front of the one I thought I had lost. I looked back at him surprised to see that he too, was crying. Our trainleft as we cried with each other.
"I think we should go somewhere, how about the park?" Giraffe asked me wiping tears away.
"I think that we have a lot of catching up to do."
I could only nod in agreement, still bewildered that I actually found him once again. We walked out of the station, both unaware of the traveler not too far behind us.
